Where will you be riding this summer, given Diablo is shut?
The guy that was running it (badly) is gone, new people will be running summer operations under the name Mountain Creek Bike Park. Need to see how many trails have been lost to some of the non-biking stuff which has been built on the mountain, mountain-coaster, zip lines etc.

So hopefully MCBP will still be my normal DH spot as it's only an hour away, but there are plenty of other mountain resorts to head to, just further away. Don't think I'll be doing Whistler this summer as I've got a pretty epic XC trip to Oregon and California planned. But I might head out to Colorado for a week late in the summer to hit all of the DH resorts there.

Housemaids knee? How did that happen?

Mine left knee (around the knee cap) is very sore, painful to put any pressure though it bended, which of course makes cycling uncomfortable, but walking is fine. It's been getting gradually worse over the last 2 weeks though. Hopefully nothing serious but I'll go to the docs next week if it gets worse. I don't want to be out of action now the weather is improving, that really would **** me off :)

Infrapettella busitis is the one i have, think it's known as clergymans knee. As to how it happened i've taken many knocks to my knee playing football so probs that i guess. I cannot kneel even for a few seconds on my left knee. I can walk about 1 mile before i have to stop and can't ride at all.

I'm hoping mine is something I've aggrevated by playing football and not too serious but my symptoms sound a little like yours. I've got dodgy knees anyway from years of abuse playing football and only recently started again, just playing 5-a-side once a week. Been nearly 10 years since I played competitively. I think I'm too old :D

I was also thinking it might be from being clipped in whilst commuting as I've read it can cause knee problems if not setup properly, but it never affected me when doing 35 miles a day last summer.

Try stretching your Iliotibial band :)

Just get an xtr from Rose

http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/...acket-shells-hollowtech-ii-sm-bb90/aid:274227

If fitted properly a Shimano bottom bracket will last quite a while and at that price even a Hope one @ £60 won't last 3 times as long. The only reason to pick Hope is if you want a pretty colour and it to be made in Britain.

Add less servicing, down time, bike shop costs if you cant do the work yourself.

Shimano 2 every 6 months x 3 = c£60 with the link provided
Hope @ 3 times the price = 18months

Given that BBs are a wear and tear item and Shimano have no obligation to warranty them. Getting a BB with a gaurantee does seem tempting.

If you've got dodgy knees are spd's really a good idea? Pedals with more float such as Time Atacs are often recomended.

This is something i thought about so i checked on Thursday with the specialist and he said once my knee's fixed it'll be fine as its not generally re-occuring unless i bash it around some more!

Think i will go with the Hope, you can bet if it fails within a couple of years a nicely worded letter will result in free replacement, Hope have always been great in this regard.

Currently using the standard shimano that comes with the slx crankset, and its been rubbish, the cranks are great but that BB is a waste of plastic and metal.
Easy to service the Hopes as well and cheap if you get the bearings else where.

Upgrading my Raleigh bike

I had a Raleigh team burner many many years ago.......so.....

Would it worth fitting these:=

To this?

I've always thought Raleigh should release large 26" versions of it's burners so all us 30/40 something's can remember our bmx past.

I don't get out as much as I used to so I sold all my expensive bikes and bought this a couple of years ago. It's only an 8 speed run about but I like it and would'nt swap it for anything.

It would only be used for the odd trip out on concrete and dirt track so I guess these wheels would be strong enough to withstand the odd bump?

So yesterday, after pretty much 2 years of moaning at him, I persuaded Scrutinize to come across to the Purbecks for a gentle ride, pointing out that his bike had far more potential than bumping up and down kerbs and riding along the sea front.

However, what started out as a pretty nice day in the morning, turned into a right fog fest by lunchtime just before we were due to leave. It was around 8C.

Visibility on top of the Purbecks was terrible, you'd usually see right down into the valley (Swanage) from here on anything but the worst of days.

And, at 1000ft above sea level, ice was forming on our clothes and hair!

Great day though, I could have gone around again, but Scrutinize is wheelchair bound now because his legs ache......:D

^^^^The pain the pain :(................................ Y U No legs

The Rocket Ron's were great on the sand soft pack and medium mud but on the down hills the rocks were slippy and grip was not good. Those photos actually make the visibility seem better than it was.

May get some Nobby Nics for this ride and leave the Rocket Rons for the road and fire tracks/forest tracks.

Shimano ones tend to last longer than that if they're set up properly. I killed one in a couple of months by over tightening the preload but the one that replaced it lasted about 12 months. Supposedly the xtr ones are better sealed and last longer than the cheaper ones too. Hopes do look nice though and I'll probably get one once my Truvativ bb dies as there's not much choice and no one seems to discount the stock ones.
