Hello all,

I currently have an average laptop and I'm in dire need of upgrading it so it can handle UDK, Autodesk Maya and Photoshop better, this involves a lot of multi-tasking, so my question is how should I go about buying a new computer.

I've browsed around the system bundles, and looked at the system configuration page, my budget is around £650;

The requirments I need are the following;

OP - Windows 7 Home 64bit
CPU - Quad Core processor - 3.6GHz?
Memory - 8GB RAM
Hard drive - *not sure around 500GB?*
Graphics card - NVIDIA 8000 series or higher
---
CPU cooler?
Motherboard?

Here is something I'm thinking about, it looks like a good deal, need advice though!

AMD 10000a Configurator - Home System (£660)

Case - Sharkoon T9 Gaming Tower - Black/Red
Processor - AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 3.60GHz
CPU cooler - AMD Stock Cooler (None overclocked systems)
Motherboard - Asus M5A78L-M LX 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard
Memory - Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB 1600MHz CAS9 Memory Kit
Graphics card - OcUK GeForce GT430 1024MB GDDR3
Hard drive - Seagate Baracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6GB/s 16MB Cache
No Second Hard Drive
Optical - LG CH10LS28 BD-ROM 10x BluRay ROM / DVDRW SATA-II Optical Drive - Black (does this mean I can watch BluRay discs?
Sound card - OnBoard Sound Card
Power supply - OCZ ZS 550W PSU
Operating System - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
No Network Adapter
Fully Cable Managed
Security software - Norton Antivirus 2012 - 1 User

Hi Welcome

Do you need the Blu Ray? Cos if not its money that could be better spent elsewhere, but to answer your question yes it would allow you to watch Blu Rays on PC

An Intel system would be faster

For security stuff I'd recommend just using free stuff such as AVG, as you see this comes in cheaper and will be faster (you cant compare like for like clock speeds, Intel beats AMD)

or for a bit more you can get the 2500k which would allow you to OC it if you were happy doing so
