Was wondering if anyone has done this? And if so where do you stay and see and essentially how did you find it.

Particular interested in the Moscow to Irkutsk section.
It seems surpringly cheap and return flights to Moscow are very cheap as well.

Friend of mine did the whole thing, all the way to China on his own. He has some fantastic stories to tell! Not done it myself, but from what I've heard from his experiences it would be awesome. Hope you like vodka if you're doing it.. :p

That would be great.

Nd yep been looking around there this after noon.

Was looking at Mongolia as would like to go to moron. But that adds so much cost.

How much would the flights and journey cost?

Return flights to Moscow can be had for about £150, then train to Irkutsk stoping at every stop(10) for a day or two is £310, going onto Ulan-Bator is another £120 on its own, then another $300 for return flights to Moron, then £120 back to Irkutsk by train.
Flight from Irkustsk to Moscow is about £80

So adding Mongolia on massively rises the cost.

We're going from the midlands > london > paris > berlin > kiev >moscow >ulaanbaatar > beijing for around £1155 (not including visas + return tickets)

Train it all the way, flying is cheating.

From cheap to 1300 in one easy go, all starts adding up when you want to do loads.

London > Moscow
3 nights Moscow
2 nights Vladimir
2 nights Nizhni Novgorod
2nights Kirov
2 nights perm
2 nights Yekaterinburg
2 nights Omsk
2 nights Novosibirsk
2 nights Krasnoyarsk
5 nights irkustk
Irkustk - Kiev
1 night in Kiev
2 day Pripyat tour
1 night in Kiev
Kiev to London

Flights £358
Train £258
hotels £488
Tour £208

Not sure I need that many nights in all the stop overs.

You could spend 1 day getting a short back and sides instead, save a few Rubles.

Thats one hell of a journey. I know a guy that did it too and he said it was tiring as hell.
knowing your luck you will meet a load of guys on their "gap yaaaar"

Another +1 on the video.
Doing the whole Trans-Siberian trip on the train and going completely across the USA by train are two of the trips I really want to take.....

:D brilliant.

I like the sound of Perm, can do a vodka distillery tour, Kungur ice cave and a GULAG prison/camp thing.

 ice diving at Lake Baikal.
More reason to learn diving. Would have to be feb/march time. Probably to soon to save up for 2013, maybe it'll have to be 2014 instead.

You can do the whole thing on google maps, even with a train track and Russian radio soundtrack!!
Alternatively you could leave the house :)
