Sky Broadband Issues

Hey,

Got an utterly maddening and frustrating issue with Sky Broadband with the speed apparently dropping like a stone!

An example:

Normally we get around a 40 - 60ms ping and ~8-10Mbps Downstream but this is just abysmal! These 2 tests alone have taken 10 minutes to perform

The issue was first noticed on Wednesday night when Netflix couldn't stream anything. I gave up and went to bed without watching Scrubs - the horror! :(

The problems persisted in the morning and after some frustrating phone calls to Sky we were no further on when everything suddenly burst into life a little after 5pm and it was back to business as normal.

For the rest of the evening it worked fine and we thought nothing of it until it was slow as molasses again which led us to more trouble shooting this morning.

In testing we discovered that a single computer directly connected to the Sky router works fine but as soon as we plug another computer in via a single cable or the switch system throughout the rest of the house it crawls again! This was working fine last night! :(

Now have tested all manner of cables/homeplugs etc we cannot find a fault in our internal network. A further call to Sky and they seem to think there is a line fault and have passed the matter on to BT Openreach which should be fun.

In the meantime we pretty much can't use the internet unless we do it one at a time! Any good ideas what might be wrong?

Working fine with a single computer, but not with multiple (however you have them connected), sounds like the router is to blame (something the phone monkeys at sky should have picked up on straight away :o).

Have you got a spare router you could set up to do the routing (handling NAT and DHCP instead of the sky one)?

I meant to connect that to the sky router and set it up to run your network ;)

With any luck the sky router should act just like it does with only one computer plugged in :)
