How do you consider things to be now compared to how they used to be (back when all this used to be fields)? Do you like it more now or less?

This question is mainly aimed at people who have been around for a long time. particularly circa 2002 (or before). But regardless of when you joined how do you rate these forums today compared to when you joined?

Is the general atmosphere more argumentative/flame-y, or friendly/helpful? Do you prefer it busy or more 'intimate'. Was the place managed better back then, or now? etc etc....

Edit : Not just GD, but forum-wide.

Always thought these forums were well run and well moderated. I like not having animated avatars, sigs, etc. Keeps the place clean and easily readable.

Thumbs up from me, for as long as I've been coming here.

Sometimes there's a tendency here to be right-wing and anti-religion, to the extreme, but generally posts are good natured.

seems slower, the new guys seems slightly less interesting, and all the memes and other **** seems to have moved on past me.

My posts per day is falling :(

I would say the forums attract a much younger audience now than when I first joined back in 2004.

In regards to the 'Quality' I guess that is largely subjective. I have never been a big fan of the endless 'Spec me a X' because I can't be bothered to Google or 'Yet Another Relationship' thread. I don't contribute too much to GD as my perception is that it has gone down hill. Threads like that irritate me but it's not my thread so don't sweat the small stuff as it's all subjective.

The quality of technical information however if anything is unparalleled in my opinion. Some very knowledgeable folk who take pride in their kit and sharing their knowledge and experience

I miss lots of great contributors of yore.

I dislike the new moderation who contribute nothing to a thread yet censure or berate my posts.

I keep coming back - Overclockers always seems like a good space and I generally like the people who post here.

GD is obviously a playground for the prepubescent these days, but this was always going to be the price to pay for popularity. Back in the day it was a loverly place to hang.

All the specialist areas are great when you know who you should pay attention to; ignoring all the instant experts who just regurgitate what they've read with no real experience of what the hell they're talking about.

I preferred it way back tbh...

Meh. General Discussion is a cesspit.

Certain sub forums are still ~ok, some have declined.

Hardware section is still very good / helpful when deciding what to buy or for updates / information re; technology :)

It goes from good to bad quite often.

I think you certainly notice when there are a few returnees on new accounts posting garbage at the same time, threads tend to be longer as they get derailed more easily.

Still the best forum by a mile though.

People asking the same questions, time after time, with the same replies, I even has a year off from this site, because of that, as its still the same.
Better forums out there (for info), but this one will stay around as its well known.

There's a constant amount of effluent, and sometimes the discussion rises above that and is good fun and interesting, sometimes it doesn't.

I particularly dislike the right wing fire and forget threads - partly because I sometimes get caught up in them and afterwards wish I'd not spent the effort.

I also dislike the level of points scoring argument that goes on. People will argue with you for no reason at all, other than winning an argument.

The past week has improved, but the month or so prior to that was poor.

It's far worse at half-term, summer holidays.

Overall it's good, can be a bit argumentative at times, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

There seems to be a trend of replying to posts just using "hilarious" images/animated gifs, which is pretty mindless and unimaginative and could do with some moderation. Also the amount of RSS feed style posts seems to be increasing too.
