The point is to get people checking back as much as possible, regardless of whether the deals are new it's the curiosity that gets people coming back. If all the deals were listed straight away and constantly for the duration of the sale people would buy less.

I get that, but checking back to find the same stuff from two days ago kind of has the same effect too.
