How to set program to show frame rate on screen during game play?

In Afterburner, click 'settings', then 'monitoring'. Click on the tick next to frame rate (you'll need to scroll down), and then click on 'show in on-screen display'. You'll then see the frame rate in games.

If you're already using msi afterburner
Click Settings - Click Monitoring Tab (scroll down to where is says Framerate and click on the tick) then underneath click where is says Show in On-Screen Display
A New icon will appear in system tray similar to the msi afterburner icon however it will have a 60 on it.
You can also use the shown-on screen display for any of the other montiors i.e. gpu temp or memory usage
