I'm 21, I suppose unlike most people my age I'm quite the opposite when it comes to what I'm after in a car. I'm not too fussed about speed and awesome handling. I just want something to waft around in, in comfort. However that's not saying I don't like having power, but I'm not too concerned about 0-60 and it must be X BHP etc.

I currently have a 2007 Ford Focus Zetec Climate.

I've been looking at something like this:

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/.../s-type/2000-jaguar-s-type-mot-and-tax/781542

and I would keep around 1k aside for contingency.

I've heard early S-Types had issues, however my thinking is that if they've made it to 12 years old and 80-90k miles these will have surely been resolved?

Has anyone owned one? (If I remember correctly I think mod owns one?)

Are there any significant things to wrong with these?

Thoughts?

Get one with the updated interior from mid 2002. A much nicer place to be and improved ride/handling/gearbox. Engines and electrics are mostly reliable from then.

Common failures are door locks, xenon lights. Gearboxes are OK but don't last forever, part prices generally reasonable. Suspension probably quite tired at 10 years old.

Very comfortable cars, 4.2 v8 (without supercharger) is the unloved sweet spot of the range, enjoyed mine.
