I'm just trying to source the parts for a Railway gun now actually. I love Nuka Grenades but they're so rare for me at the moment that I'm always afraid to use them.

The size of the game is really something. I keep thinking I've done quite a bit (about 20 hours in), and then I look at the map properly and realise I've barely scratched a quarter of it.

My favourite weapon was the Lincoln repeater in FO3, such a bad ass rifle! Sounds epic too!

As for FO NV.... I really enjoyed the gobi sniper, and the fully upgraded hunting rifle :)

The first time I played I went through with small guns but got bored of creeping around quite so much, so the second time i went melee. You still need to creep up on the bigger enemies, but it's damn fun slicing them up in a couple of hits. :D

For me, Small weapons were the way to go. They're a great mix of short range damage (like the Chinese Assault Rifle) and long range killing (Lincoln Repeater and Sniper Rifles).

I love FO3 so much, just thinking about it and reading this thread is making me want to go through it for the 4th time. I have the GOTY Edition on the PC, and having tons of mods running makes the game even better than it was to start with. Definitely think I'll be starting it again now :D

Minefield and an unmarked shop next to Tenpenny Tower called Lucky's are good for finding lots of custom parts in one place. :)

I have sort of found the main small weapons I use so far are sniper, combat shotgun and Chinese assault.

I made the mistake of getting this on the xbox and not really knowing about what it was Ido not have GOTY .

May go through it this time on xbox and then switch to pc with fo3 GOTY and GOTY new vegas

It's so cheap now you might as well just buy it on PC, if you can't afford the GOTY edition I have the PC version of Broken Steel and Point Lookout on DVD which I can post to you for nothing. I think last time I checked on Steam it was around a tenner for the GOTY edition, you can probably get it cheaper on GMG or GoG though. :)

Thanks very much for the offer, but It's not the monies, it's cause I have already spent a lot of hours on this version and it would be frustrating to go do it all again.

The xbox chugs quite a lot, never ever seen that before!

Installing to the hard drive doesn't make much difference with FO3 either, the PC version is by far the best, the performance issues on console actually get worse the bigger your save file becomes, there are loads of threads dedicated to it over on the Bethesda forums. You'll make the time back up on the PC version no problem, plus you'll have the early game experience now which will make it much easier to breeze through, compared to your first time.

Having said that the X-Box version is at least guaranteed to work. I originally bought the collectors PC version on release day and encountered a bug that caused a CTD 2 seconds into the opening cut scene. The game was ridlled with bugs on release and to the best of my knowledge a good percentage remain unpatched.

I swore never to buy anything from Bethesda again until just over a year later I caved in and got the GOTY pack for X-box :o

Well some people's rigs need a bit of tweaking to get it working properly, but it shouldn't be difficult. Depending on your setup you might have to download some .dll files to make it work properly.

Both versions still have their bugs, but that's just because it's such a big complicated game. At least on the PC version you can fix a fair amount of bugs yourself using the console commands.... eg if a quest becomes bugged and unfinishable.

Starting over wouldn't be too bad imo, as you don't have to do the same quests you already did. Other than escaping the vault, and asking around for your dad obviously. That tenpenny quest you did has at least 3 different solutions, so even that can be played completely differently.

Small guns is def the best to specialise with at the beginning, but by the time you reach end-game you'll have enough skill points to max out multiple weapon skills.

It's just ammo is hard to come by in the early game, and small guns and bullets are the easiest to find. Later on you'll start fighting tougher enemies which carry lasers and big-guns so they become easier to get hold of later.

Yeah I can forgive bugs in this game as it is so sandboxy (have an issue where the dog will just freeze often when asked to search)

That's true, I've hardly done any of the main quest.

It wasn't for me. I put around 50-60 hours into a PC playthrough, and the only crashes I had were relating to mods I had installed, and were generally fixed just by changing the load order of the mods. I certainly didn't encounter the same level of bugs other people did.

If you fancy it on the PC, I reckon it'll be in the Steam sale at Christmas, so only a month or so to wait for that. It'll give you enough time to play through on the Xbox, then get the GOTY edition on the PC, and then use your knowledge of the game to decide what mods you want to run.

As much as I love Fallout 3 on the Xbox, and as much as I generally prefer console gaming over PC, for me the definitive version of Fallout 3 is on the PC with a few mods installed. It made an already exceptional game even better.

best game I have played on the xbox for sheer value..the game of the year edition cost me 20 quid and I have played on it hundreds of hours

if only they could make a fallout 3 game with co-op..it would be superb to play with friends

would be my ideal game..with random dungeons or quests I would never need another game
