No one is purposive banning cars. It's not even remotely the same scenario.
And no they will not just massively increase tax on all electricty used. They allready give fuel allowance to pensioners etc. it's at a much reduced tax rate anyway. It would be suicide for any government to attempt such a thing.
It's just not going to happen.

Which leaves paying through something like ved and eventually when majority of cars are electric phasing in pay per mile.

They will never just increase the cost of electric.

i had one a few years back,it was just a thought seeing that everything is on a computer and easily checkable by the plod i just dont see the point in all this paperwork ect

They just don't do producers as it is. It's always just check their system and if the person insists they have insurance, phone the insurance company up.

I don't think I've ever displayed the tax disc on my motorbike - couldn't bothered getting a holder for it where it'd just get wet and dirt anyway. I wish it was as easy to get away with it on the car. It's a complete waste of time.
