I'm told that the Eneloop charger available outside of Japan is quite... poor, basically just a dumb/trickle charger, making it rather overpriced indeed.

There are much better chargers for the money, or so I'm told.

I have a Duracell CEF23 which seems to work reasonably well, albeit taking into account that it's quite a cheap charger. It has Overheat detection for the cells as well as, supposedly dV detection, I've certainly not had any serious issues with it.

I'm sure that better chargers abound, so I'd ask around on CPF for recommendations :)

Anyone got a Fenix E40? I want to get my dad a torch for Christmas but having just spent £440 on my mum I cant really afford the LD41 I was originally looking at.

It uses XP-E led, which I'm not familiar with. Its 4 x AA and 220lumens on high, so not great, but slightly brighter and longer runtime than the LD20 and £10 cheaper.

Or is there anything else around £40 that takes AA batts worth a look?

If you could stretch another £15.75 you could get this:

http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/nitecore/nitecore-ea4.html

code cpf will bring it down to £55.75

that looks pretty cool but unfortunately I can't stretch any more at the moment. Had to buy him 4 Eneloops and a charger as well so it was getting a bit too expensive and i'm not even sure he needs a really bright torch.

Went with the E40 in the end as its the best I could see at £40 range from a UK seller. From reading on CPF it seems like its been well received and is a decent thrower apparently.

Im after a torch LED or otherwise for walking the dog. Needs to be able to light a good distance away and under £50 (Prefferably with rechargeables)
Spec me?

The Fenix E40 I have just bought would fit your budget with a set of Eneloop batteries. Not sure what it's like yet, but i'll have a play with it when it arrives. Otherwise you're looking at importing from China to get something decent for that budget.

The torch Deluxe1 suggested for me above seems really good and can be had for £40 from China. A set of Eneloops would be around £8.

After going to a 999 call the other day in the late evening around 16-1700hrs in the middle of a farm... I suddenly realised I had no torch and my cars lightbar alley lights couldn't even reach the scene.. one of the doctors that showed up to my job had some headgear on that I think would do me some use so i've gone and spent some doller on:

Coming on express delivery tomorrow. :D

I really shouldn't be in charge of my own wallet lol;)
