Damaged Motherboard Opinions

Hi
I received this motherboard today to find one of the corners are damaged. What do you think? Do you think the damage will affect the board? Am i right in thinking i shouldn't take the risk and just return it? Its an MSI z77 mpower.

I would return it with that amount damage. How was it wrapped?

I ordered a few other things with it, the lot was in a larger box with the plastic bubble packaging on top.
I think it was dropped into the box, and thats how it got the corner.

I am surprised with the amount of damage occurred, the mark on the box only looks small.

Post a note in the customer section and hopefully 5UB will assist.

That looks like damage caused by electrical arcing rather than impact damage.

Wouldn't drop damage be apparent on both sides of the board?

It is, however the pic does not show it properly.

It shouldn't affect it imo,the mounting holes are usually just earthing points,it looks like the corner has snapped/fractured?

Have a look at the pic showing the screw hole from the top, it is just a bend on the board, underneath is where the crease from the bend crumpled.

Still needs sending back though.

If you ever have problems and need to RMA they may try and refuse RMA on the grounds the board has been physically damaged.

RMA it straight away imho

ouch

it's very unlikely that it would cause a problem due to the location, there are no tracks that close to the screw holes. That said, I'd probably still recommend getting it swapped.

Be careful the place you brought it from doesn't try and say its installation damage because it does look like its been over tightened...although it has never been installed....I would make a point that you removed it from its packaging and thats how it was.

I have heard of lesser quality stores trying this.

Was it sealed? it looks like someone has damaged it trying to fit it.

I suspect it has been returned by someone and sent out to you as a 'new' item send it back ASAP and get a replacement.

Dont think the slight crumple on the packing box is likely to be what caused the board damage.

As others have said I'd RMA a board looking like that.
