Computer issue - screen corruption, video inside

Hey guys,

I have a second computer which is an oldish Shuttle computer with a socket 775 motherboard, e6400 core2duo, 4gb ram, 30GB vertex ssd and onboard graphics.

I have a clean install of windows on it but after a while of idling, the following happens:

Anyone got any ideas of the cause?

Would say it's a GPU issue but with on-boards im not sure how you'd go about fixing it, sorry.

Yea I have tried an 8800GT in it as well and it has the same issue..

It is a Shuttle SG41J1 Plus by the way..

Have you tried a memtest?

No, I was going to try out memtest 64 but cant find my dam usb stick! Just having a look at AIDA64 to check the northbridge temps..

Could try reseating your RAM, there was a guy on youtube who claimed doing this can solve some graphics problems.

check pins on vga leads and monitor, unplug from power and see if any wiggle aka loose, seen one when a pin was loose and gets warm in use caused error, changed lead and it worked fine.

if not onboard chip might have blown / or getting too hot, try and see if it's got any powered round it, or cracks in it, you can always get a chip cooler and see if that helps, might keep temps down etc but no way to repair it unless you want to get solder gun out and have a replacement, which i cant see working or happening tbh

heat or dust, the killer of many a Shuttle board maybe.

but as you have tried onboard and a card, it sounds like it maybe isn't the vga at all, and just could be cable or monitor itself, easy way is use another for any length of time and see if you get same error if you can borrow one or have a spare that is.

I would definitely do a memtest first. I had a problem with a laptop where the screen went funny and had a similar pattern to yours, it was the ram

I doubt it is the cable, but it's a possibility
