I was under the impression that there is some sort of archaic law concerning the ownership of washed up Ambergris?

In Futurama Season 4, Episode 16 "Three Hundred Big Boys", Kif gives Amy a watch that is shortly after swallowed by a whale named Mushu. They make the whale vomit the watch, causing Kif to be covered in ambergris in his attempt to get the watch back.

It doesn't smell like lard, then again I'm not sure what lard that has been floating in the sea for years would smell like!

I wonder if the natural history museum in Oxford would be able to identify it?

I sent an email with pictures to the French website and didn't get a reply.

thinking about popping in to Oxford to see if the Pitt rivers has anyone who would be willing to identify it.
