Golf MK4 Window

Hey guys, just wondering if you knew what the problem could be?

My window on the drivers side will go open fine, but when I come to close it, it stops and automatically goes back down?

It's as if it's a 3 staged program or something.

Opened fully > Opened 3/4 > Opened 1/2 > Closed.

That's pretty much what the window opens back to?

Any ideas? Thanks.

It could be it's got a bit confused like you suspect. I'm pretty sure on my A3 the best way to sort it was to put the window down then up again 3-4 times holding the button down fully each time (i.e not letting it auto up/down). Alternatively disconnect the battery for about a minute or so then reconnect.

Alternative issue could be that the window thinks it's coming into contact with something and the safety is kicking in. First thing I'd do with that is take the skin off and have a look at the runners for anything that might be giving some resistance and lube em up.

Could also be the plastic clips which hold the glass in place has snapped?

Dodgy window regulator, change it and make sure your new kit has metal clips rather than plastic before the window just never goes up again

window reg is failing and the additional internal friction trips the overload/safety function int he window motor, so it retracts

if you continue to use it youll burn out the motor

Very likely to be broken clips, which can cause the mechanism to jam.

Just had a look at it, still got the old plastic clips - can someone point me to the correct replacement clips?

Might as well replace them and see if that helps?
