It's enjoyable when it's working!

There are still a lot of issues which I think need to be fixed before I would even consider recommending it to anyone.

Hold off for now until they release a few more patches and hopefully implement some of the communities suggestions to improve a few aspects of the game.

Plus the longer you hold off the more the price will come down.

Keep checking the Sim City thread to see what people are saying and also check the SimCity subreddit for daily news/rants and info from the developer (they post reply's to threads often)

You have just lost your internet service (happens) you want to play your favourite game which you paid for, sorry but you cant unless you have an internet connection.

Because it relies on the EA servers to process part of the "herd calculations"...

pitty EA didnt think to stop the game from carrying on as normal for upto 20minutes before it decides it wont be able to reconnect to the server LOL......

Haven't had a single issue with it to be honest either, and was playing from the day after launch. Never had to wait once to get into a server, and I also don't get all these people saying they can't build a city past 100k people? I'm not particularly good at the game and on my first go my city reached 260k without difficultly, and I'm still going strong building up my oil empire, researching clean oil generators for my power plant etc.

Only issues I've had are that the zones are too small, and that water seems to run out too fast.

Definitely don't regret the purchase, although at £36 it's a bit steep.

Put a water treatment plant right next to your pumping station. The treatment plant refills the ground water ;)

And also always use the filtered pumps if you can.

From what i've read it's been proven that there is no offloading of processing to the servers, it's all done locally.

EA may claim that, but in fact you can unplug your internet connection once playing and it won't realise that there is no connection for a while surely proves that it merely "checks in" every now and again with the servers and boots you out when it can't?

That was also confirmed by an anonymous developer, that there was no reason, in his opinion, that they shouldn't be able to easily make an offline version without all the extra features that being connected brings.

I've not played it, but have been watching closely as i bought it for the missus in the hope of getting more gaming time myself. ;)

Whats broken with it? Im just asking as ive not seen any bad news, ive been watching loads of vids on youtube and no ones said anything bad and it looks fun to play

Don't reward a company for treating all of it's customers like criminals, and not allowing them to play a game that could work great offline without having them constantly monitoring you are not a pirate.

It's the Ubisoft debacle all over again.

The more we put up with this rubbish the more it'll filter in to every game.

During beta I was trying to find silly ways of avoiding the online component and 1hr limit, the first thing I did was simply block all data to/from the SC process, while a popup about connection did appear the game still ran, population grew, money came in and I could still click. I left it for 4 hours before I gave up, it kept going but some popup boxes and alerts about my city prevented me from using the interface.

People who have bought a game shouldn't have to put up with draconian DRM, those are the people who suffer, not the pirates.

This happened with Ubisoft and caused a massive backlash, why should EA get different treatment ?

It's really not if it negatively effects your paying customers, and gets your companies reputation so much flak.

I'd also bet there will still be a pirated version crop up before too long, as it's been disputed that any calculations are done server side at all.

Edit: apparently there already are.

Say what you want about reddit, but man they go hard.

Seems like they have uncovered a lot of data suggesting that city sizes are being artificially inflated by phantom sims.

oh dear

It has a few issues that need ironing out and yes the server issue was a joke over release weekend but its a good game, im hoping for some changes in the near future - ie city size and resources being eaten away to quickly but yea.... good game and I have no regrets in buying it.

It’s not perfect but I’ve been enjoying it, and had very few server issues, it really has improved a lot after the first day. The main issues for me are:

-Its over priced, no reason for this to be more expensive than other releases, though as its EA I can’t see the prices dropping quickly.
-Zones really are too small. Okay you have to accept that you can’t have everything in each city and need to specialise, but they still need to be bigger, especially if you end up with water covering part of your zone.
- No ability to easily restart your city. This may not seem like a big deal, but what happens is when people fail they just give up on their city and head off to play a new game, which just ruins the whole multiplayer aspect.
- Bugs - There are clearly quite a few things that need ironing out. Mainly little things but its annoying when your recycling facility just stops working for no reason, little things like that.
- EA are evil

I'm personally not buying the game for the following reasons;
1) The server / waiting issue
2) The terrible traffic / pathfinding AI
3) Apparently the game can be played for roughly 20 minutes offline before breaking. EA have lied about on-line being integral for the game to work.
