Hi

Using inSSIDer to experiment with the wireless channel - Huawei HG533

If I move to a different channel all those BtWiFi routers seem to follow me ?

its a bit spooky

they all have seperate MAC addresses so I guess they aren't some strange virtual router - or are they ?

this might be relevant :-

any ideas ?

Thanks

p.s. just rechecked inSSIDer - they have moved on

do they just move all around the place all the time ?

In here and out there.
They are your neighbours who are running BT Home Hubs, part of the thing with them is that they segment off a little bit of your internet connection and serve it up over WiFi for other BT users to use whilst in the area.
You will also find the same thing in city centres where cafes have free WiFi.

Was explaining this to someone this week, they thought it was coming from their neighbours whereas it was actually coming from their own router.

Switching off the router and running inssider proved the point. Opt out of BT fon is the answer

Hi

I know what BtFon is, its just spooky how its tailing me as I switch channel
and as I'm TalkTalk I am not part of it - or am I !!!!

i'll try and switch it off and use a mobile phone link and see what inSSIDer says

"the truth is out there"
