Fiesta Ecoboost fuel consumption?

We are thinking about replacing our Fiesta. If the stated fuel consumption is accurate then the ecoboost would be a huge saving over 200 miles per week. I'm specifically looking at the brochure numbers for Urban driving as they're basically what we're getting in a 2011 Fiesta and 2012 KA. Ford state 53.3mpg for the 1.0 ecoboost 99bhp. Can anyone tell me if this is realistic?

Thanks :)

There was an article in TG Mag and they said MPG figures quoted by Ford are before it boosts. Hence why the MPG of the same variant of the same engine in 99 & 123 BHP are the same :)

The MPG figures quoted by Ford are with it driven according to the prescribed EU test. This is not to do with boosting per se, but that similar engines with limited technical differences that are completely unstressed by the test tend to get similar results.

Take the E46 6 cylinder petrol range, for example:

320i 2.2, 31 MPG
323i 2.5, 31 MPG
325i 2.5, 31 MPG
328i 2.8, 31 MPG
330i 3.0, 31 MPG

If you drive carefully you will achieve 50+ MPG.
We have a Focus Eco Boost and I can easily average 47 MPG without even thinking about driving to maximise MPG.

:: Edit ::
The Ford quoted combined figure is 65 MPG so low to mid 50's should be attainable.

Which engine do you have in your fiesta? I have the 1.6 and its reasonably economical anyway. Average low to mid 40 mpg doing about 300-350 miles a week. If most of your journeys are short on a cold engine, you're never going to get high figures regardless of the car/engine combination.

Above all, wouldn't the ecoboost cost more to swap to? Cancelling out any small saving on fuel.

Its only useful for comparing to other cars, but on all of them you won't get what they say.

My point was that the Urban quoted 42mpg for a 1.25 Fiesta and 48mpg for a 1.25 KA are the numbers we're getting. I would like to know if the ecoboost would likely give a similar consumption.

A saving of £25pm just on fuel may not be much to some but it would be significant on our £250pm fuel bill.

Edit: it's more to swap to but we would be looking to keep this one longer, so overall hopefully still a saving. At worst it would break even but hopefully a nippier engine.

£300 a year? how much are going to be spending in the first place to save £300 a year?

You surely are not going to switch from a 2011 Fiesta/2012 KA to a 2013 Fiesta because it has slighlty better fuel ecomony are you?

200 miles/wk, £250/month fuel bill? That's around 20mpg, and that's being optimistic! I think your current fiesta might be broken :p

I'm assuming the fuel bill is for both cars whereas the mileage is driven by each, i.e. around 1700 miles in total per month which works out at over 40mpg average.

£1.40 ppl, 200 miles.

@42mpg = £29.71

@50mpg = £24.95

Saving £4.76 a week x 52 weeks = £247.52 a year.

It's gonna take a long time to recoup the purchase cost of a new car.

If you want a brand new car that's your choice, but don't try and justify it by fuel costs because the purchase price will nearly always outweigh the money saved.

ETA: Even at 65mpg (which I don't think you'll ever acheive) you'd still only save £546.52 over a year.

The golf I've got has averaged 65 mpg over the course of the last 2000 miles (three weeks).

Wouldn't buy one myself mind.

Supposedly my car is around 45mpg according to Fords tests...

...I'm getting an average just shy of 37mpg with mixed driving over the course of the last year. I've heard the ecoboost MPG figures are wildly different to real world economy.

Surely if money is the issue maybe cutting your losses on PCP and buying a second hand car would be the best port of call and saving your monthly finance cost.
