Hi Guys,

I built up an ITX HTPC a few years back using an Atom/Ion board. This has since become my mums PC she uses for the usual mum tasks, internet, office work, looking at photos etc. However it has recently started playing up so Im looking into upgrading the system.

Now for the last few years Ive not been keeping up to date with hardware so could do with a hand! Ive got a spec, but could do with some alternatives, not sure how good the 1155 Pentiums are and maybe an AMD spec too? Would basically just like to save a couple more quid haha.

MSI H61I-E35 Intel H61 Motherboard
i3 3220 CPU
Corsair XMS3 4GB RAM

Comes in at around £175. If I could get it below £150 that would be sweet!

Cheers

Can do less than £140

AMD A4-5300
ASRock FM2A75M-ITX
4Gb TeamGroup Elite (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

£139.97

But that said if she has been fine with an atom/ion board how about this?

Gigabyte GA-E350N AMD Hudson M1 DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard
4Gb TeamGroup Elite (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

£77.98

But that said the cheapy Pentium cpu should work pretty well

Intel Pentium G630 2.70GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
with the same parts as you suggested should come in at about £140 and be perfectly adequate :)

Thanks for the reply ZX. Im not after a board with a built in processor again, I like the option to upgrade in the future.

Still, either of those options is fine, Im leaning towards getting the Pentium, reviews seem to say its ok so should do her fine :)

Cheers again
