I don't think anyone is particularly surprised, they are just bummed about it (myself included). They announced the air so they do announce consumer products at these conferences.

I think it's mostly down to Haswell not being completely ready yet.

I think they want Thunderbolt 2 as well. Haswell is more or less ready at this point and there is already some quad-core machines out.

Ughhh.. Was fairly set on getting a MacBook Air 13" until the rumors of the MacBook Pro refresh came out. I'm looking to replace a 15" 2009 MBP which although still runs ok, could be quicker and weighs a tonne when I'm travelling. Plus battery is 3 hours tops (no wifi).

Looks like I have no choice but to wait. If the new Retina MBP has a battery life close to the air, but with that screen and more all round performance, and not that much heavier.. Then it's a no brainer.

I guess the £300-£400 premium keeps the markets apart
