Hi i am thinking or slapping up a linux box with DVB-T2 tuners to be a sort of "network tuner" for every other PC/Laptop/tablet in my house. I had expereince with Ubuntu in the past but that was a long time ago and i consider myself a linux beginner :p My questions are

1. Is MythTV easier these days to set up and customise?
2. Can non linux boxes access the tuner from the linux box?

Hmmm. Interesting. You can do this but it will be difficult and expensive.

I will be brief as there is allot involved

I assume you can use v4l/gstreamer.

Get dvb-t stream and re-encode to RTP.

Setup multicast stream for each channel, you will need a separate tuner for each channel.

You can use a single tuner but all people watching will be tuned to the same channel.

You don't want to unicast this - you will congest your network.

Tvcatchup.com will be a cheaper option and you can be up and running in minutes

Simple - something like MythTV or HTS TVheadend, and then you've got a number of options for clients - the easiest is to use XBMC, which can run on Linux, Android, iOS and Windows.
