I'm on Talk TALK , well the family is so you can understand . . .

they are beyond rubbish

anyway

"Total error seconds" - how can you judge if the figures a re bad or not ?

ADSL (Sync) Summary
System uptime: 1:55:34
Modem ADSL (Sync) uptime: 1:24:09

Interleaving: On
ADSL mode: ADSL2+
ADSL settings: PVC:0/38
ADSL line speed (kbps): up 526 down 6587
Line attentuation (dB): up 22.2 down 44.0
SN margin (dB): up 19.7 down 14.2
Total errors seconds: 1

SO does this mean in 1h 24 min adsl sync period - 1 second in total was incorrect and had to be retransmitted ?

I've asked them to try and put this into perspective as you only ever see your own router stats but they seem to struggle with that concept

anyone any idea ?

Thanks

Hi

thanks for the info

adsl drops and then doesnt reconnect for an indeterminate period of time

tried a new router form talk talk - no difference

old one no difference - then sprung into life on Friday for half a day of service then dropped completely

same game today and old router conected eventually

think the Error seconds are worse now though . . .

ADSL (Sync) Summary
System uptime: 0:13:28
Modem ADSL (Sync) uptime: 0:12:15
Interleaving: On
ADSL mode: ADSL2+
ADSL settings: PVC:0/38
ADSL line speed (kbps): up 483 down 7204
Line attentuation (dB): up 22.2 down 44.0
SN margin (dB): up 16.8 down 14.2
Total errors seconds: 55

12 min uptime - 55 seconds of errors - not good !

maybe i'll download an iso for a laugh and test the line . . .

thanks for any ideas or thoughts

An errored second is basically a counter of how many seconds there have been which contained an error. Considering you'd send hundreds of packets per second shows how insignificant this counter can be. it is not a full second of errors.

In that last one you had 720 seconds of which 55 contained at least one error. A better metric is how many errors you had and what type they were and in which direction.

Nevertheless it does sort of show that the old router is having more trouble.

Hi Guys

thanks for the info

we always use the test socket - its one of those adsl plate things fitted by openreach last year v1.0

had total loss of service all Saturday evening - came on this morning about 1hr 47min ago

funny thing i was just about to take it all out and try a normal socket with a filter when i checked the adsl light - its on - quick, log on !

had been trying both routers - new doesnt seem to have an advantage on the other one

tealc - thanks for explaining the error seconds - i've asked talk talk to explain it and of course nothing back

ADSL (Sync) Summary
System uptime: 2:25:40
Modem ADSL (Sync) uptime: 1:50:02
Interleaving: On

ADSL settings: PVC:0/38
ADSL line speed (kbps): up 253 down 6550
Line attentuation (dB): up 22.1 down 44.0
SN margin (dB): up 18.9 down 16.4
Total errors seconds: 24

i'm going to try an iso again to stress it a bit data wise

didnt seem to make much differecne yesterday but i'll still do it

one thing - i opened the adsl Plate v1.0 yesterday - 3 wires connected to the adsl port but theres a loose wire - white with green stripes

anyway, thanks for the help

p.s. - think this explains the iPlate wire - looks like its a good thing that the wire is loose

here is a proper pic from the web of our box - sort of bulbous front to it

Hi

lasted 2.5 hrs then died

tried the now router in the extension in the kitchen just because I could - nothing but that could be hwo the openreach guys altered our wiring so I can live witht that

thing is - tried the handset to make sure of a normal line - 1471 worked ok

broadband came back within 30 seconds

this rings a bell with something we had maybe 2 years ago - dodgy line but if you use it you raise the voltage level "or something" - i'll have to search on here as I'm sure i posted about it - just found it

"high resistance fault"

should be fun explaining that to their indian call centre

bring back the irish one they used to have

anyway, any input welcome

downloaded 800 meg so far

Here are mine from the Router
=======================

Line Status
============

Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 170
Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 6944
Line standard ADSL2+
Channel type
Interleaved
Upstream SNR (dB) 23.3
Downstream SNR (dB) 13.6
Upstream line attenuation (dB) 22.1
Downstream line attenuation (dB) 44
Upstream output power (dBmV) 12.5
Downstream output power (dBmV) 0
Upstream CRC 68
Downstream CRC 0

I'm not well up on these but really this should be irrelevant to the user - the line should work

the area we live in isn't exactly a 100 years old or anything
