On Battlefield 4 I've been getting around 30-40 fps on 1366x768 and high settings.

Is it me or is that pretty poor? I'm running BF3 at 1920x1200 at 30-40FPS on high (no AA). Also, Rome 2 runs at 1680x1050 at 30-40 FPS high settings. Seems a little low, especially for a BF game which are normally well optimised.

I think it's because its a windows 7 thing. Apparently it's a lot better on 8.1. I've been getting similar results to you on BF3.

Following on from Fridays successful MacBook Air deal I've been told the new 13" Pro Retina (normally £1099) will be £899 from Monday morning at 6:30am. There limited stock though do be quick.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to find out.

Thanks for keeping us all updated on these deals. Any idea if any deals on the 15" are coming up?

My 13" never crashes but it freezes once or twice a day which is annoying. I have to put it to sleep for 1 min and open the lid again and it's fine. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Had an hour with mine:

2.3, 16Gb, 256Gb, Iris Pro only.

I had last years rMBP up until June then a Haswell MBA so was looking forward to seeing the improvements.

No lag so far!! Even on Polygon and The Verge. Transitions are smooth on mission control and moving between 5 desktops is smooth so far.

Really pleased. I had forgotten what a class above the MBA this is.

Using my rMBP Iris Pro only version with Safari in desktop 1, Outlook in desktop 2, Numbers in desktop 3 and Parallels 9 (Windows 8.1) in desktop 4.

Runs just like the 2012 rMBP when on 650m only mode when moving between desktops. This was just what I wanted, really pleased.

The fan is not coming on with Parallels either like it did with the 2012 rMBP on 650m mode.

from someone who has never had a mac before

why would I pay for parallels / vmware fusion when bootcamp is free?

Thanks!

Parallels allows you to use windows and windows apps within the OSX environment whereas bootcamp means you have to boot into either OS and then you can only use that OS.

Useful for windows platform developers or network admins who need windows specific apps but if you want to add Windows just to fire up a game it's really not worth it.

Bootcamp requires you to turn off your mac and load up bootcamp to use windows.

Parallels / VM allows you to run windows within OSX meaning you don't have to "switch off" OSX (effectively allowing you to use Windows and OSX programs side by side).

Finally opened my rMBP 512gb / 16GB / nvidia yesterday. This is my first mac - its going to take a lot of getting used to. A few questions:

Does OS X run at the retina resolution natively (i.e at max res)? There is an option to increase desktop size - i assume changing that doesn't change the resolution?

Is it recommended to install microsoft office if needing word / excel etc ?- i had a quick look at pages etc, they dont seem that easy to use

Can anybody recommend a mouse? - im not sure i can be using the pad all the time!

Im sure my list of questions will grow - it is a very slick machine however!
