How much does it cost to go 540 miles?

With my decidedly dodgy math I've got £67. My experience tells me my math is bad and it's probably more like £76. Thats an E46 330D.

I think you'd have time for more than a coffee while you waited for me though :p

I did just over 500 miles this weekend gone so I know my figures are pretty much accurate. That was with cruise control set to just below 3,000rpm (economy takes a massive dip above 3k) for most of the trip barring the road works south of Birmingham, M6 Toll (nothing insane though) and some traffic.

I don't think you'd be too far behind!

At 155mph I get 6.8mpg so that'd be almost £1/mile... but I would have time to wait :p

I have averaged 47.5mpg on mixed motoring on A roads mainly with a bit of motorway over the last 5000 miles. I drive quite quickly and up to national limits (or a fraction over when overtaking).

Therefore 12.9p per mile at 135p per litre of diesel, 540 miles = £69.75 Honda Civic 2200SE with 110,000 miles.

EDIT in the OP example with mainly motorway it would be cheaper averaging 50-55mpg.

Using the trip I did from Leeds to Stevenage yesterday down the A1 as a guide I'd say about £50. Though so many factors could alter that, I've done Leeds to South Warrington which is approx 70 miles and managed 85mpg driving like an old grannie and not hitting any traffic, the same trip back I did 65mpg. In my Saab 9-5 Aero at best it'd cost about £85, doing 80ish would raise it to about £105 and cruising at about a ton would cost about £120.
