Are you guys alright to add some screenies to the Hi-Res Screenshot thread or have you all sacked it off/uninstalled it?

Put a few in there for you, they aren't the best and it's only from a couple of sectors but it'll do for now I guess till someone more proficient than I put's some in there.

I'm going to give this game a fair crack of the whip. I will work through the campaign (I am on the hacking bit) I side tracked yesterday and did some kill missions and tried some escort missions but they were bugged. The effects of taking out a large transporter are cool, I started taking out shield generators then defense turrets the explosions look cool and they continue to burn once destroyed.

I thought I would have a go at boarding but I really do not know where to start. Any ideas?

The game actually walks you through the boarding process. Its on the same menu as hail and dock. When you select board, it starts off a mini quest and you basically just follow the objectives. It starts with destroying the jump drive and engines and then moves onto destroying the turrets on the ship in order to help your boarding marines when they're inside. Its beneficial to take out any ships escorting the vessel you want to board as they will destroy the boarding pods which are launched automatically when certain conditions are met. If you progress a bit further into the story it will explain what you need to start boarding vessels and will walk you through your first boarding mission. If you want to start before that, you will need a marine officer(which you recruit like other ship staff) and some marines, which you just buy from a station vendor like any other resource.

I can't give you advice on what targets to start on to get your skill up(the marine officers CAN become more experienced, unlike most staff) as i've only done it twice, one as part of the quest chain and another on a transport in the middle of nowhere....which failed(boarded with 8 basic marines, which cost ~30k each). So it would probably be a good idea to have a lot more mairnes than that, or the more expensive marines. The problem is it will probably set you back ~1 million credits to get a decent sized squad of them. Another thing i can tell you is IF you fail, there will be no notification, so if nothing happens after a few minutes of boarding you can safely assume you've lost your men.

You mean this?

Lots of bleeped out swear words!

Glad i saw that video, tells me everything i need to know and i think the guy is spot on that it's a failed xbox game (7 years to make!?), really pathetic to see from egosoft considering how good the other games are, sure they often did have some bugs on release but it always got sorted, im not sure the guy played the other games, it didn't seem like it but it made me laugh how he went on about his idea of docking in a cargo bay, uh yeah we had that in xbtf and it was nice, x3 changed it to outside which is fine as well, but this is just dumb, i don't want to run around to the same npc's to trade, seriously?

I can't see myself ever enjoying this game, not even if it wasn't an x game i only played the campaign, the acting and missions are dumb, but as an x game it looks so amateurish and limited in potential, nothing exciting about the universe from what i can tell either so what's the point?

So, this is why we hardly got any actual GAMEPLAY and MECHANICS videos instead they just kept showing off stupid nonsense like "Look, look how pretty everything is!"

It's the ones who buy from Steam fully knowing they can't get a refund at all that get me. Then they spam going I WANT A REFUND as loud as they can as if they weren't aware of this very possibilty and bought the game anyway.

My brother just got a refund on this on steam, note it was credited back to his steam account, but it's better than losing all your money on this pile of excrement.

Well I find myself more confused with this game then I was with any other x game. The UI just seems like a mess, anybody got any tips?

The map seems weird, I have no idea how big the universe is or where I am in it. I guess I need to explore some more to fill it out like the other x games. Sector map is also not very helpful.

Do I have to physically go and talk to every NPC that I want to purchase something or hire somebody or even repair my ship? This is already getting tiresome and I've only just hired an engineer and defence officer!

How to I find out where to buy specific things? I've got to go buy some drones but have no idea where to go. Is there a way to select stations for a distance and see what they do rather then having to almost fly into them with you crosshair pointed at a stupid little icon?

I want to like this game, it is an X game after all but jesus the voice acting is so bad it puts me off straight away. Seriously I wish my ship had an AI to talk to rather then that plank of a co pilot I have to sit next to. The game would be instantly improved if it was just text based like old school games, nothing kills immersion like bad voice acting and terrible lip sync, its one of them things you either do properly or don't do at all. Half assing it is no good.

If you want to find a specific vendor just ask any ship you come across. Provided you have a good relationship with them they will tell you where to go, it will replace your current objective.

I still can't believe they've wasted 7 years of dev time on this, it's crazy when you think about it, that's basically the whole life span of last gen consoles, even a small dev team with funding for 7 years could make an amazingly polished and expansive universe, heck we could have had all the fps station interiors and more as an extra to a solid x game play we all expect, this game should have been great.

Makes you think about Star Citizen - there is a lot of expectation for them to produce a AAA+ MMO and single player game in a years time with a team of about 30 people! If he pulls it off ill be amazed.

As for X-Rebirth, the modders will make this a game worth playing in a couple of months im sure.

I don't love it, but there is a lot that I like and it isn't like we have any other space sims at the moment other than the most recent x games.

It really doesn't matter how much it gets trashed, they now have your money. Raging everywhere doesn't do anything. Most of the people who rage end up buying the sequels, we have seen it many times before. No idea why people preorder with zero info, then get so cross. More fool them tbh.

It's those people the shiny 'Hollywood' trailers are aimed at, seems to work as well. Bit like a dog when you pretend to throw a ball and they go charging after nothing.

Except Star Citizen has a very talented team with a great track record, and Egosoft... Well, don't.

I would love to get a refund for this pile of ****. This is not an X game and frankly no amount of patching will fix this. Sadly I bought the game from the shop and because it is shop bought cannot get a refund. I never bought of steam and because it uses steam key shop wont take it back.

Just watched the You Tube clip and while the guy rambles on a bit, pretty much clinches no sale for me. It seems to me Egosoft wanted to make a Wing Commander or Privateer style game, but without the money to pay for FMV and an ex-pornstar and other named actors. At the minimum, if you're adding a first person perspective to the space stations, the graphics need to match Mass Effect.
