I'm going to be graduating from the University of Chester in March and thought it would be nice to go out for a meal with the fiancée afterwards. I know Chester is a lovely city and I don't doubt there are a few really good places to eat, so I'm just looking for any recommendations that anyone may have been to :)

I highly recommend these 2:

Upstairs at the grill - Nice smallish steak restaurant, similar to the Hawksmoor restaurants in London, fantastic service and great food. Make sure you go to you bar upstairs before the meal too, I believe it's solely for restaurant guests, selection of 60+ gins.

Simon Radley at the Grosvenor - Michellin starred, food and service is flawless. Get the tasting menu.

I can recommend upstairs at the grill too. Each time I have been it has been faultless. Best roast dinner I have ever had as well.

Blackhouse grill is good also but essentially the same cuisine as upstairs at the grill just not as nice an experience in my opinion. However, they do 50% off all food in January which is a decent touch. You have to book online via an offer link.

Sticky walnut is on my hit list as we'll not been but heard great things.

You won't go wrong at upstairs at the grill though. I would go as far as to say its one of my favourite uk restaurants.

Only even eaten at Simon Radley when staying at the Grosvenor, but it was really good and for Michelin star not that expensive. Meal for 2 was around £120 I think including wine.
