Clutch slipping
Boot gas struts weak
Squeeky clutch pedal
Stone chips all over the front end
General rattles from the trim

Bout it really. Mechanically very sound - all minor niggles - no doubt people with more knowledge will be along soon :)

Indeed I can see no reason to buy a car with 3 months mot - not to say there is a problem, just make it a condition of sale that the seller gets it done.

There isn't a lot to go wrong with the 1.8, but make sure you are happy with the way the car drives as they need a good bit of abuse to go anywhere moderately quickly.

Get one in the highest spec you can too, there are loads around and it has minimal impact on price.

Check the roof seal, if its not been changed under warranty the roof will be rusty.

Coolant colour should generally be orange/red/green and not murky or have oils sat on top.

Engine oil should generally be light to dark amber (depending on age) and not black and thin or sludgy, and the engine should start well and runs smoothly.

Check for knocks whilst turning and whether the car pulls left or right and if it pulls whilst braking. Steering should be precise and have little to no play.

Clutch should not slip and gear changing smooth.

Hope this helps :)
