Regarding Bravvos and the Iron Bank - I thought about how they might exact revenge and whether they would kill people along with simply giving financial backing to another army who would take the throne then owe them.

Got me thinking - where was that assassin from who helped Arya escape?
She got to give him 3 names who he would kill and he did so efficiently, and changed his face and vanished.

I thought whoever that was would make for a very interesting group of people to appear in the plot again but it hasn't been mentioned since.

Is there much more light shed on these assassins anywhere?

I thought maybe it's people like that who the Iron Bank could use

The Faceless Men. If the situation calls for an assassination then they certainly could hire them. It's not necessarily about getting revenge though. It's about reclaiming as much of the debt as possible. If they help Stannis take the throne, Stannis will pay back the money that they lent him, plus interest and a proportion of the crown's debt. They'll never reclaim the whole amount - it would be reasonable to ask Stannis to service Robert's portion of the debt, but unreasonable to ask him to service any debt accrued since Robert's death.

It's not really a world away from how debt is handled in the real world. If I owe money to an organisation, chances are they will sell that debt to a debt collection agency for less than it is worth. In both cases, the debt owner accepts that getting something back is better than getting nothing back.

The Iron Bank would only look to assassinate someone if it helped them reclaim their money. Lets say Jeoffrey didn't die. Ten years from now he is very much ruling the Seven Kingdoms himself. He has the whole of the Seven Kingdoms on edge, constantly playing everyone against each other for his own amusement and having anyone who criticises his rule killed (painfully). He chooses not to pay his debt to the Iron Bank as he truly believes he is untouchable. On the other hand, his brother and heir Tommen has grown up to be a mature, well adjusted and educated young man. He left King's Landing to keep away from his brother, growing up in [Highgarden, Casterly Rock or Lannisport], and is seen by many as the king that should have been. This is where a Faceless Man would serve the Iron Bank well. They could have Jeoffrey killed, make it appear like someone expendable was responsible, and then use their money and influence to ensure that Tommen succeeds him (just in case anyone things Jeoffrey's death is an opportunity to test their claim to the Iron Throne). It's not about revenge, it's about getting as much money back as possible.

Thanks for the breakdown. I wasn't sure what kind of organisation the Iron Bank was - whether purely about the money, or whether they would get involved at all politically for any power or control - so I guess they only care about the financial implications of any given situation.

The Faceless Men as introduced in Season 2 just seemed like a really interesting organisation and I found myself wishing I could see more of them. I've always liked Assassins and I think it'd be a really good organisation to use and get to find more about.

I managed to find a site that worked here and see they settled in Bravvos and do seemingly have links to the Iron Bank so I guess they may have used their services in the past.

Anyway - I hope we see more of them. I'm more interested in them than plenty of the other 'filler' or 'side' stories going on. Maybe they are another one that will get more time in the books (another reason for me to read them instead if so).

It also gives Arya 2 links to Bravvos for the future. Her swordmaster, who is not confirmed to be alive or dead, and the faceless man who repaid her blood dept.

She has a list of people to kill too so it'd be cool if she ended up in the Faceless Men or something

Her dancing instructor could represent Tyrion in the trial!! Now that'd be epic. Especially if versus Meryn...

Yeah it would be cool. I heard that in Bravvos, a swordsman can be challenged at ANY time and the only way to survive is to win.
The fact that her instructor (don't recall his name) was a decent age, suggests that his swordsmanship is certainly one of the (if not, THE) best in Bravvos from his time there.

It was suggested that he was about to die in the scene but it's not confirmed and he was capable of getting out of that alive so who knows.

Was it only me during that Season 1 scene who was begging for him to pick up one of the swords off the beaten soldiers?

Nope! lol. He was a likeable character so I was hoping he'd be able to nab a sword and win the fight. Someone told me that Martin himself refused to say if he was dead or alive but I don't know if it is confirmed in the books or not as I haven't read them.

However, that does suggest to me that he is alive and will have a part to play - or Martin is just trolling people.

Would make for a good fight scene either way so hopefully he comes back.

Apparently Lily Allen was offered the role as Yara, but turned it down due to the touchy feely scene between Yara and her brother.

Must say, I think that was a slightly gratuitous attempt by the producers to give the show more controversy to publicise it. I would have felt uncomfortable watching it. What would Keith have felt like

So people have gone from the ridiculous notion of Jaime being Tyrion's champion to Syrio Forel just suddenly turning up out of the blue to do it for no reason!.... Anyone else? What about Hodor? Master Luwin? Melisandre? Robb?

:p

My God. Incredible!

This weeks episode was worth watching just to see Tyrion let rip:cool::D

I'd hoped Shea was going to swing in and save the day:( well I guess I was wrong about that:p I keep expecting her to be revealed as someone important to the plot, with a mysterious past:confused: well I guess there's still time:D

Indeed it was one of the best acted moments of the entire series so far me, you could really feel the emotion when he went for it.

How many of the characters do you think believe that Tyrion killed Joffrey?

I say none at all. Even Cersei doesn't believe it imo. You could see it in her face after Tyrion demanded trial by combat.

The opposite: everyone genuinely does believe it. You forget the things which have been said in the past, such as where Tyrion is blamed by the people for the food shortage during the siege. This is a medieval world, where people believe that the form reflects the soul. So a twisted body means a twisted mind. The book makes this more explicit, but Cersei is in no doubt at all that Tyrion killed her son, and neither is anyone else. He makes a poor scapegoat, so the only other reason for a kangaroo court is that everyone thinks it will arrive at the correct verdict.
