Actually anyone with intelligence can understand that a new product already having 12.5% market share and growing every day is actually a good thing ;)

Surely it depends on how they calculate it? All the laptops we are getting in with Win 8 on are getting rebuilt as Win 7, but do these still count as windows 8 sales?

EDIT2: Personally I consider 8 a flop just because the UI is absolutely rank, sure you can hack it up into something semi decent with 3rd party tools, but out the box it looks like a cheap knock off as per one of the things I said before compare Windows Defender UI in 7 beside 8 :S
i could say the same about all the previous OS's from 95 to 7...

i did to mod all the previous OS's from 95 to 7 to just make them more user friendly... windows 8/8.1 is the first OS i haven't did to mod...

so just imagine how make years i had to it and have i moaned about it. no... you should be luck that it's only 1 OS out of 8 windows OS's that you had to mod.

is this real life? Your actually comparing a new OS with one thats been around since the dawn of time and using it to form your argument.

what in the actual ****.

Yes.

Growing by not much considering it's been 12% for months now.

hmmm i think u need to stop being rude.

do a search on this forum about me then maybe u'll understand the reason why my spelling has it is. most people here know me and understand the reason and don't have a issue with it.

edit: i'll make it easy for u. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18236540&highlight=username_gareth170

I think our awesome Gareth170 has just owned you hard Steveocee. He's a credit to the forum and an amazing individual so chill out. Don't be so quick to judge people based on what they post.

I am just chiming in to say that I don't particularly care much for Windows 8. I don't really understand the design concept for a desktop OS. Sure, as a tablet OS it probably has a place, but I don't use Metro in a desktop environment so for me the start menu definitely has a place.

I don't really care about start menu anymore, windows 8(.1) has a few search bars that is very easy to get to anyhow.

I have fairly bad spelling myself, due to learning issues..It does not mean we are backwards, although that depends on the person. I see it like this, those with learning disabilities are far more adoptive, as we need to find ways around our weakness.

I agree.
Any person here should never attack another member due to their spelling etc ...

We all have the right to post and attacking a members spelling is not only rude but a personal attack that goes against most forums guidelines, also remember English is not native to every member here let alone disabilities.

Getting back on topic I can understand Microsoft's thinking, they are not far away from Win9 so want to concentrate on that,it's not like Win8.1 as it stands is unstable or unusable, far from it.

I don't see the point in picking on spelling or grammar anyway, to me it looks like someone having a cheap shot at someone else because they can't compete with the discussion.

(of course, I think gareth is a top bloke but also think his opinions on W8 are tosh) ;)

The metro menu was an inevitability once Microsoft decided to go down the windowed apps road. Do you want something half baked again? Waiting until next year is nothing considering anybody can retrofit one right now if they want it. It's no big deal.

im betting many more people bought win7 retail than win 8. to me you shouldnt really count sales bundled with pcs to measure success.

I for one wont buy win8 for any of my home PCs, i doubt many non specialist offices will. can you imagine the moaning.

i dont like metro and dont even really know why it is on desktops really. EVen though it is easy to disable im sure it really hindered it

Why? Microsoft is a company, and their primary concern is to satisfy their shareholders. I've no idea if they did or not, but that they're adapting suggests they're not just ploughing ahead as they see fit — they're building on the good parts of Windows 8 and moving forward. They're still in the position to say "stop complaining or sod off". There are alternatives out there.

There is a metric out there for everybody to distort.

If you count sales somebody will say "that's sales to the distributor". If you count sales to end users somebody will ask "how many of those got downgraded?" If you cite usage share numbers somebody will say the customer didn't have much choice because you can't get XYZ operating system preloaded anymore.

Its the same measuring stick as all the others, as all the others included downgraded etc.

But how many people would have downgraded 7 to Vista, not many I'm sure.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, once you use 8 for a while the start screen becomes second nature and if you really hate it then there are cheap third party options like Start8.

How about 7 to xp, lots and lots.
Were still running in xp now.

It costs lots for companies to upgrade, so they generally do it once I'm a blue moon. Always been like that. It was a good time for MS to shake it up. as what ever windows8 looked like most companies would not upgrade regardless if they saw it as good or not, as most have only just upgraded to 7.

What Ms should have broken into more was the tablet and phone market. Tablet the hardware sucked and phones missed things like vpn, both of those issues thankfully have been fixed albeit it silly late.

Meh, probably too late for Windows 8 anyway. It's already flopped. Will help to sell Windows 9 if they put the Start Menu back into that.

Pretty much. It would be nuts to add a significant feature to a tarnished product at this late stage.
