Hi there

You know this is such a hard one.....

Garage 1:-
Daily Car: All the performance you ever need and all year round use: GTR with 700BHP: 40k
Weekend Car: Shelby GT500, 800BHP: 35k
Track Car: Atom / Caterham / Westfield of some kind for 25k

Garage 2:-
Daily Car: Mercedes AMG of some sort: 20-30k
Daily/Track Car: Porsche 997.2 GT3: 70k

Garage 3:-
Summer: Ferrari 430 Spyder: 70k-80k
Winter: Mitsubishi EVO X FQ-400: 20k

One of the above three, or just something completely different. Driven a lot of good cars, all with their positives and negatives.

Hey, who said you can have three garages? :p

My garage would be similar spend and choice as the OP

£75k - Ferrari 599 GTB - Special occasions.

£9k - BMW 530D Auto - Used for long distance and comfort.

£16k - EVO X FQ360, All year round Daily.

For me:

£40k for an Ariel Atom 300. Why wouldn't you want a supercharged k20 go kart.

£17k on a Renault Clio V6. 3.2, V6, rear wheel drive, in a Clio....couldn't not have one

£30k on a e90 M3. Would need something semi sensible!

£9k on a DC5 Honda Integra. May as well have a fwd toy in the garage too

£4k on the engine in my mx5.

My XJ. I wouldn't change it even with a lottery win. Just over a year on and I still have a big smile on my face every time I get in it. Its special to me as it is never a car I thought I could own from new - the deals on offer at the time were exceptional.

The sporty stuff in this thread doesn't appeal to me any more, guess I've settled into being a middle-aged fart. 15 years ago maybe, but now I love comfort and wafting along in style. There's plenty of ooomph there when I want it, but I no longer feel the need to wave my willy at the lights.

And finally, 1 minute 40 seconds in here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh_us78fTlI. It was on order when we finally got to see the film. I so knew I'd made the right call :)

Having seen some of the garages on Pistonheads and thought about this topic far too much, and not enough, I think that "3" is the magic number. It means that you spend enough on each car so they're all special, yet specialised enough. Though I'd probably settle for two if they're both gems.

Car 1: Daily: Maserati 3200GT - I really like the styling, the engines and to a lesser extent the exclusivity. A decent cruiser whilst still being reasonably capable. Despite this, I'd still have the 6 speed manual - though thankfully I have quite a short commute! It was a toss up between this and a Jaguar XK. £15 for this one, but budgeting £20k if it needs some work or if a better example from a specialist crops up.

Car 2: Weekend/track toy: Ginetta G40R - just that little bit more usable than a Caterham without sacrificing much. Can also enter race series if desired later which is always nice to consider. Only one on Pistonheads is not far off new at £21k + VAT (so £25k)

This leaves £55k for the project/classic, which is by far and away the hardest, so will update this. Thinking of a wide range of cars, including a modified Karmann Ghia and 911s, but could well be anything TBH.

As for why 3? Enough variety for a non-jack of all trades that any 1 £100k car would have to be, but not so many as one wouldn't know what to drive or what was most special. Also few enough tht each example will be really nice.

I will happy accept any donations off my list if you win ;)

:p if I do I'll set up a "Collectable Car Magazine" where each week you get a different bit of the car for you to put it together...... but it will be in random orders just like the other ******* magazines!!! this week, a wheel. next week, rear right seatbelt socket...... following week, oil dipstick... :p

I'm not really a guy for weekend cars as such. I'd prefer to buy one and then run it all the time except where it's not suitable, i.e transporting lots of people or stuff.

With that in mind, i'd have a nearly new Nissan GT-R for myself and probably buy something like a Skoda Superb for the girlfriend and to do the heavy work - at least the 2.0T but maybe the 3.6 VR6 depending on how much change I had left to run the thing.

I would have what i already have. Except newer models. For the way we live there isnt really a better combination of cars than a V8 SL Mercedes and a V8 top spec Range Rover. I guess i could swap the SL for an Aston DB9 Volante actually, they are surprisingly good value these days so would fit within this budget easily with space for a 2012 or so Range Rover.

Personally I think id spend it on several options. You can get a lot of 2nd hand car these days for not a lot of money.

20k Audi B7 RS4 - Id have to keep it, it ticks all the boxes. 4 Door, Rapid, V8 noise, prescence, relative rarity, 4wd.

10k - Impreza P1 - From the day I walked past the Subaru garage at 16/17 and saw one in pride of place in the windscreen I wanted one. Classic nutter lads car. Could use it for the track as well. If they hadnt all been raped and barried to death id have one now.

25k - BMW M6. Never owned an M car, might as well make it a 5l v10. Could get a decent prev gen 2nd hander at 25k and id probably make it a convertible to have a convertible in the garage.

15k - RangeRover Sport - Greenlaning and general lording it about, get an 05/06 easy at this price.

5k - Jaguar XJS V12 - Used to have random dreams about owning a Red one, no idea why. Good for when im really old.

15k - Caterham 7 - For smashing round a track

2k - Ford Puma - Had a 1.7 as a company mota for 3 years, loved it, good looks, relative economy, great to chuck about.

2k - Mini Cooper for the mrs. She has a pants car. She'd be happy with this

6k left. Which tbh Id need for petrol!

Just caught someone on an "enthusiast" motors forum, with this impressive list of owned cars

1976 Lada 1200
1981 Reliant Robin
1985 Volkswagen T25 Holdsworth campervan
1993 Fiat Panda Selecta
1994 Fiat Panda Selecta
2005 Vauxhall Combi CDTI

I want to direct him to this thread, but I fear that his list may consist of 200 cars and be quite depressing. :p

I'd also spend it on a number of different cars. Much better value for money/fun for your money than one really expensive car.

2006 Lotus S2 Exige - Maybe 240 Cup Depending on the price (20-30k)
1991 BMW E30 318is - Must be the 'is' model with an LSD (5k)
2000 Subaru Impreza P1 - The best looking Subaru in my eyes (5-10k)
1996 Honda NSX (25-30k)

I'd blow the remaining 25k on a number of modifications to the cars. The E30 would get better springs/dampers as well as a turbo conversion - done as a kit or by myself in a shed. Exige would get a bit more power from a turbo conversion or a beefier supercharger, nothing too extreme. Maybe some more power in the Subaru too, again, only a bit more. The NSX would remain unmolested.

If it was 100k purely on factory/unmodified vehicles, the remaining 25k would go on a Mitsubishi Evo X Fq-360.

Mine would change around a lot as I get bored, but something like this.

1. Audi S5 Sportback, remap, catback and bigger brakes £30k
2. Audi R8 V10 R-tronic £65k
3. Standard EP3 Type R (trackdays) £5k

General assumptions on price. If any left over, private plates for both Audis.
