First shots with new DSLR

Recently bought my first DSLR, a Nikon D5200 with a 35mm f1.8 lens. Here are some shots I took with my new gear in Tenby, South Wales at the weekend.

Still learning, so C&C more than welcome :)

Some nice shots, I take it you are having fun with the kit. I have been using appeature priority a lot since getting the 35mm prime, it's such a fun lens to use! Off to Cadiz this weekend to give the camera and 35mm their first proper outing.

Cheers. Yes I'm loving it :)

All of these were shot in aperture priority. The lens is fantastic even wide open at f1.8 but I tend to keep it f4 - f5.6.

Look forward to your shots from Cadiz :)

Some nice shots there. Miss my old D5100 with 35mm f1.8

Personally I'm not a fan of the slightly desaturated low contrast washed out look you've applied to some of them. A lot of Cannon users do that to there photos for some reason (my gf loves it).

Nice location. I'd like to see more vibrance in those colourful buildings. The landscapes seem to be lacking a little sharpness, you didn't shoot everything at f1.8 did you?

5 & 7 were shot at f1.8, the rest all f4 - f5.6.

Yeah, the low contrast washed out look i applied to 5 & 6 isn't everyones cup of tea, but i thought it suited the subjects, especially the old film shop in 6.

Don't be afraid to use your smaller apertures f8, f11 etc. for a lot of these types of landscape shots.

The post processing is fine, just experiment. It's all good.

One thing I would say is in #2 is you've managed to line up the top of the building pretty much exactly with the horizon - definitely something to avoid in my opinion.

Other than that they're generally pleasant photos and that lens seems quite nice.

I love 12 (great colour), 8 (like the darkness), 1 and 11. 13, 9 and 10 seem a bit over exposed, but other than that, nice set.
