What was your first car? Rover Metro Gta

Optional questions:

- How long did you keep your first car? About 4 years
- Were you sad to see it go? Yes and No, it had to go as it was replaced and two cars were to much. I had some fond memories with it and it was still very much a reliable working car.
- What did you replace it with? Hinder Prelude VTEC
- Any fond or amusing memories of it you would like to share? Curbourough sprint track days, rock solid South African tyres and a lot of fun!
- Did you crash it? How badly? yes, hedge backwards at speed. Lucky lucky day, I am a sensible driver now, I car drove out and was fine after getting tracking sorted.

First car? Ford KA as in the image below. Had it for almost five years and replaced it with a Peugeot 307...I have not been very good with car choices. The image below shows the final moments of the KA. I forgot to top the oil up in the engine and, well, it melted.

My first car was a Dacia 1310.
I had the car for 4 years.
Glad to see it going!!!
I had a Renault 5, not much better then Dacia...
A lot of memories, illegal racing ( not sure if you can call a race with a dacia 1310), stacking 12 person to go to DISCO, first girl on the back seat on a cold night in December with no heating, good memories...
The car has never been crash, but it use to break down quite often.
Some picture with dacia 1310, not my car

What was your first car? Fiat Punto 55 SX (only 19 seconds to 60!)

How long did you keep your first car? Just over a year.

Were you sad to see it go? Kinda.

What did you replace it with? A Hyundai Getz which actually turned out to be a very cheap and reliable runaround, very spacious inside considering.

Any fond or amusing memories of it you would like to share? Plenty of trips to the beach in the summer which when you're 17 is just the best feeling ever. It's the car that gave me freedom and while it was a complete pile of unreliable, slow, dull rubbish, I'll always cherish it. Plus it had front fogs and electrical luxuries that my friend's similar Punto didn't have. Bragging rights yo!

Did you crash it? How badly? :p Had a few of the typical new driver incidents, scraped it across a wall while some friends were messing about in the car, rolled it into a garage door by mistake after I'd forgotten to pull the handbrake up, punctured a tire after clipping a ditch at speed. Had an old type Range Rover with bullbars smash into the front wing which bent the wing, bonnet, bumper, and smashed the lights on that side. Also managed to get rear ended by a white van while sat stationary at a set of lights, quite lucky there wasn't anybody crossing as they'd have been pancake-ised I imagine.

I just checked and it is 19.4 seconds 0 - 60 in a car with 55HP & 72lb/ft that weighs 860KG

My car takes 17.4 seconds, has 54HP & 78lb/ft and weighs 1100KG :p

How did Fiat fail that hard? :D

It was truly a magnificent specimen, even more so with a glasspack exhaust and alloys that barely fit in the arches.

1986 XR2 which was not bad for a 19 year old to have a 2.5 year old car when my mates had 10-15 year old MII Escorts etc.

Not my car, just same as it but 1987 Reg.

Did a lot of work to it, rebuild Engine at 96k all high end parts like Kent Cam Kit etc and Spax Suspension Kit and a lot more than I can list here.

I was attached to it and kept it a long time and sold to mate who bolted on a Weber Twin Carbs (I never did get to do this myself as they are a bugger to keep tuned and in cold weather).

I never crashed it buy guy did hit it along one side while not watching while lane changing in a 30 zone, he did pay for repairs.

He used to race it round KnockHill.

In acme's chair.
Just spilled petrol all over the back wheel of mine, tried to wipe it off as best I could, and then promptly span it on the first corner I came to.

That was an odd experience. :p

Deepest Darkest Essex!!
1986 when I Learning to drive. Bought a Chrysler Sunbeam. (Not the Lotus one)
Owned for four years.
Two tone (Black & rust :p) Carburettor was worn & I couldn't afford to replace it at the time so it drank fuel & I was always skint filling it up. I stopped driving it when I got a job close enough to home to walk. Big mistake, by the time it got round to the MOT the work that needed done to it to pass was more than the car was worth, scrapped it in the end.

Not sad to see it go as it was a money pit. Replaced it with a Vauxhall Nova.

Renault 5 1.4 GTS - Silver - Reg: 1992
It had electric windows and central locking, properly spoilt me!
I loved the gear stick, felt like you were using a slot machine when changing gear!

- How long did you keep your first car?

A grand total of 7 years, which thinking back on, is quite a long time for me!

- Were you sad to see it go?

In a way I was sad to see it go, but I actually got back twice the value for it when I got rid, so not bad. It's now a little cube somewhere, probably being used for Coke cans or something.

- What did you replace it with?

A Mini One, bought from new with the scrappage scheme. Got rid of that too now. Much happier with my current car.

- Any fond or amusing memories of it you would like to share?

The clutch cable snapped 3 times, each of those times it was on roundabouts of varying size. I think it was trying it's best to kill me.
Bloomin' French cars and their long clutch cables for handling right hand drive...

- Did you crash it? How badly?

No, someone drove into the back of me on a hill in traffic. He looked like he was going to crap his pants, but I told him not to worry as it was an old banger. Got back home and it had a crack in the rear bumper but nothing major. Never did repair it :)

My first car was a V ('99) Peugeot 306 1.4 Meridian. Loved it to bits in all honesty!

- How long did you keep your first car?
I kept it from passing my test at the start of June 2009 all the way until October last year, so four and a half years.

- Were you sad to see it go?
I wasn't initially as I was replacing it with something much nicer, but there are days when I do miss it an awful lot!

- What did you replace it with?
Replaced with my current car, a 51 plate Honda Integra DC5 in Champ White. Quite an upgrade :)

- Any fond or amusing memories of it you would like to share?
No "fond" memories stick out, but amusing most definitely! I moved up to Edinburgh two years ago for an apprenticeship and on only my second time driving up there (after a short holiday) spark plug #1 decided it had had enough and blew clean out through it's slot and dented the bonnet on the M1! That was a bloody scary ordeal as I knew nothing about cars at the time and was suddenly faced with a slow car being even slower! Ended up getting towed the remaining 200 odd miles!

- Did you crash it? How badly?
It was a first car, so it had a couple of little dings in the first year but nothing after that! Worst one I can think of was coming to the quick understanding of what aquaplaning is and how quickly one can over-correct it! ;)

Reading that someone had a Renault 5 with electric windows and central locking has made me even more sad about the fact that my car has neither.

Surely they didn't work? :p
