I wouldn't agree with that comment about the World Cup being the pinnacle of the football, that is the Champions League buy a long shot nowadays and is only going to get further ahead of the World Cup.

A lot of the players at the World Cup looked knackered, Messi was awful to be honest, how he won best player only FIFA can tell.

The group stages were good, the knock out stages not so good apart from a couple of games and that 7-1 match, but that was more on how bad Brazil was.

Russia 2018 doesn't inspire one bit.

The World Cup is and will remain THE pinnacle of football. The Champions League is becoming stale, with only a very select group of "elite" clubs in with a chance of winning it and competing in the latter stages every single season.

The World Cup is light years ahead as a spectacle.

Agreed; CL is poverty compared to the WC master race.

How many different teams have won the World Cup? it's about the same as Champions League isn't it?

IMO the World Cup is just a giant footballing circus, in terms of the worlds best teams going head to head it's the Champion's League.

Which is likely to produce the better football:

a) A competition where you can only pick from players in a particular country and you get a few weeks to polish tactics and make selections. You may have 10 top midfielders and no good attackers etc.

b) A competition played by the best sides from countries across the world that have shown form over a season and play week in week out together. The sides are composed of the best players in the world wherever they come from.

Selfish tbh, you can't blame him for wanting to retire on a high but to actually do it with 3-4 (possibly 5) tournaments still left in him isn't helping Germany or his team mates.
