Been looking at getting a used Mondeo (2000-2007 range) as a family get around as my current car is giving up the ghost, been looking at either 2.0L or 2.5L sized engine, but wondering what would be a safe mileage to buy at, seems quite a lot of 150k miles and 80k mile markers, my guess typically would be if there's a particular reason i.e. rebuild territory or major work required at that particular mileage, I understand there's a lot of Mondeo users on here so thought may be a useful place to drop the query.

The 2.5L will be the turbo unit won't it? I would be wary of a 150k miles turbo car, unless it's got an impeccable service history.

The 2.0L units are pretty bullet proof, although sound quite agricultural.

Hi,

No the 2.5 V6s, the 2.5 Turbo ones we're in the MK4s I'm looking at the MK3s

All the petrol MK3's seem reliable IMO. My dad had the 2.5 V6 Zetec S for 5 years took it to 95k and it never missed a beat. passed its MOT every year without fail. He now has the 3.0 V6 Titanium X model and i have the ST220 both been great cars so far.
what model u looking for? as the mk3 Zetec S and Titanium x are the better looking exterior wise apart from the ST.

Its worth looking for the V6 2.5 and 3.0's over the 2 liter. Still get pretty good MPG.
Only thing to look out for is the clutch and the handbrakes can be abit loose other than that there great all rounders. :D

I'd be going on condition at this age rather than mileage, I bought a 149k TDCi nearly 5 years ago and it's been great, a petrol one should hopefully be even better as less expensive bits to break.

as long as its been serviced properly and given a modicum of tlc they will clock up moon miles quite happily.

Had the 2.0 engine in my old Mazda 3 which was very high mileage (albeit well maintained) and got thrashed all over the place - never had a single problem with it.

Have heard good things about the 2.5 as well, and the 3.0 engine in my Jag which I believe is similar to the 2.5 has been utterly reliable and feels like it will go on for ever.

I would get a facelift. Had a Y reg and now got a 54 plate and the interior just feels nicer.

Last one was a 2.0 petrol this is a tdci 130. The petrol feels noticeably quicker but the tdci is much better on fuel. On the same run petrol got me 29mpg diesel gets me 42mpg. (for another comparison my 525i got about 22mpg, its a run town and country lanes)
