Has anyone booked their car in for a oil service after the break in period?

As this is something I've been considering.

Always. You've only got to see the oil that comes out to justify that it's worthwhile. Typically £100 inc VAT if you supply your own oil to the OPC.

Yea that's pretty much my line of though on it. I've got another 600 odd miles to go and I'll get that booked.

My wife kept the car she does not quite understand how much value she takes off the car by taking so many pointless 25 mile trips to pick up a dress after work or what ever she does. In fairness she does 4 or 5 home visits per day which puts a lot of mines on the car.

In contrast I have done about 1500 miles on my 911 since I bought it in late Jan.

Not really much point. The oil filter will do its job and it's filled with decent stuff at factory.

Don't get confused with the M3 and its water like running in oil that needed a 10W-60 after 1000miles.

Hey guys, I've just stumbled across a Cayman and noticed the cheap price considering the type of car it is - is there something I am missing? Is servicing incredibly expensive? It seems a bit suspicious that such a car can be had for ~£15-£20k.

They are pretty cheap to run really, the servicing as like most Porsches is 2Years or 20,000 miles which every comes soonest.

That sounds about correct money for a early example which may have high mileage or is a bit tatty.

They are epic little cars! :D;):cool:

Let me dig out my service book and ill type up what's in there.

Two things are worth doing with 2nd hand Porsche, ensure they have a 111 Point check done this is normally around 175 + VAT. This allows the car to be warranted under Porsche then. Also the earlier cars pre DFI engines, id recommend getting a bore scope check done for piece of mind.

Mines pretty cheap to run on fuel, as on a long run it often averages 34/35 MPG. When driving around town and generally making some noise its a lot less but I seems to get around 300 / 375 miles from a tank of fuel.

One thing to be careful of with Porsche's as well, if the car is fitted with PCCB brakes ensure the discs are in a good order as a example the replacement on for a disc on mine was around 3400+VAT per disk.

This is from my Service book:

911, 911 Turbo, Cayman, Boxster

Intermediate maintenance @ 20,000, 60,000, 100,000, 140,000 miles etc..

If the mileage for the scheduled maintenance is not reached, intermediate maintenance must be performed after 2, 6, 10 ... years.

911, 911 Turbo, Cayman, Boxster

Maintenance @ 40,000, 80,000, 120,000, 160,000 miles etc..

If the mileage for the scheduled maintenance is not reached, maintenance must be performed after 4, 8, 12 ... years.

911, Cayman, Boxster

Spark Plugs are due every 60,000 miles or 4 years.
Drive Belt: Check at 40,000 miles or 4 years

There is other stuff but this is the basics.

I've been reading about rumours about a GT4 RS, which may feature the power train from the current line GT3 which will be the "final send off" (Due 2017) for the 981 shape Cayman.

If this turns out to be true, I want!

Put my car in to get my keys sorted today. So much nice metal to look at but it's the little things that put a smile on my face while I was there:



How nice it is to have keys that work properly and with shiny new cases and electrics, The last time I could make out any colour in the crest on my keys was when I owned the Boxster.
