Found my old XP station, can I use it to upgrade OS?

I am in the process of building a new rig but I will be using my current Windows 10 and Storage and using the old rig as a fresh base for my girlfriend.

I have a spare 1TB HD and I have found my old copy of XP, will I be able to install windows XP onto the 1TB in the old build and get it upgraded to Windows 7, 8 or 10?

I'm not quite sure how the upgrade process works at the moment other than the free upgrade to 10 from 7 and or 8.

You can only go from 7, 8 or 8.1 for free to Windows 10. You would need to get the XP install upgraded legitimately to any of those to qualify.

you can re install XP if you have the disk and product key with no issues.

you will not be able to upgrade to W10 as XP doesn't qualify for this.

you would need to buy a W7\8.1 key and then install the OS rather than upgrade from XP.

you can still run XP fine but as im sure you are aware XP is out of support and will not get any new security updates etc.

Fixed since 8 doesn't qualify for the free upgrade to 10.
