Hi all,

Currently in the process of building a gaming rig which will also be used for games development and general usage.

I'd like your opinions on it if you wouldn't mind?

Intel i7 6700k: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-581-IN
MSI z170A Gaming M7: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-304-MS
Asus 980ti Strix: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-372-AS
Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-455-CS
SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 850W: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-039-SF
Corsair H110i GTX: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-033-CS
NZXT H440 2015: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-172-NX
Samsung PCIe SSD 512GB: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-214-SA
Arctic Silver 5: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=AC-000-AC

I already have peripherals, SSD's, HDD's, monitors and Windows 10.

A couple of questions for you guys:
  • Does this case have good airflow and enough room for all the parts, especially the H110i GTX radiator? I believe it does I just want to be sure. Any other case rcommendations?
  • Is it worth getting a sound card? I have Logitech Z5500 speakers so some good sound would be nice!
  • Would the Asus Maximum VIII Hero be a better motherboard? Would another motherboard be better than both in the same price range?

Thanks for any input. Really appreciate it!

If it's going to be used for development then surely the extra cores of the 5820k on X99 would be better? There's also the fact that £390 for a i7 quadcore with HT is a disgusting price!! I would swap the psu to the EVGA Supernova P2 850w. It's basically the same psu as the Superflower as they build it for EVGA and it is based on their own Leadex Platinum but has no led's and double the warranty at a whopping 10 years. 850w is overkill for that system though unless you will be adding a second card at some point. A 650w psu would be more than enough and still have loads of headroom left over for overclocking.

Hi,

1) - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18697246 - Free stick of RAM, then add the other stick to make 16GB for £35 more.

2) Is an X99 bundle not cheaper/roughly equal price ? - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-020-GI&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=2858 - then change the RAM for a quad channel kit.

3) Paste comes already applied to the H110i GTX

Thanks for the replies!

The rig will primarily be for gaming and not a lot (any?) games use 6 or even 4 cores (yet). So would the CPU with less but faster CPU cores be the better option in this case?

With regards to the free stick of RAM. Wouldn't there be much difference between the 3200MHz RAM and the 2400MHz RAM?

And yes, eventually I'd like to move up to a 2K (or maybe 4K, if/when it becomes the norm) monitor so would potentially want to add a second card somewhere down the line.
