Does anyone have room for someone who currently works in Retail (21 years old) and wants to move up into something more fulfilling in an office role? Preferably full time.

Thanks.

I was asked once - why, as I seemed to be a very intelligent person, did I get a 2:2? (the choice was drugs, women or partying).

When the subject comes up I usually say that my time at university was a blip (in part because my school was very draconian and did not really prepare me for the freedom of university, but also due to a poor choice of subject), and cite my other qualifications to demonstrate my academic capacity (i.e. if I performed well before and after uni that at least provides some evidence to back up my claim that it was a blip rather that an indication that was incapable of operating at that level).

The problem is, as you allude to, that often you'll get binned before you even get to have a discussion about it.

Nowadays I don't even state my degree classification on my CV just BSc (Hons), as the fact I have postgraduate qualifications, good A-levels / GCSEs and assorted industry certifications probably gives the impression that my degree can't have been a complete disaster. This means I usually get a chance to explain it verbally if necessary, unless I'm directly asked on an application form.

Why do so many companies in the IT sector not advertise the expected salary when advertising a role

So when they say '£20k' and don't get an adverse reaction they can low ball you and get away with it. Thing is, most applicants will happily skip over any role where it's not mentioned.

Exactly. I wouldn't even consider applying for a job where the salary isn't mentioned in the ad. To me it just screams crap employer in most cases, or in some cases a typical "if you have to ask, you're underqualified" sort of thing.
