New starter motor?

My car has recently started to be slow at starting. By this I mean when I turn the key the first couple of times the engine turns over on the starter motor are slow, but the rest are normal speed and the engine starts after a normal amount of time (a couple of seconds). This slowness also seems to be getting worse so I want to fix it before it fails to start. it still does it when the engine is hot. Today it really struggled and the engine light flickered on /off with each slow turn and it did about three.

It's an e46 330ci. Do I need a new starter motor?

Or it could be your battery, can you try someone else's battery before shelling out on either?

Could be battery or alternator.

Just pop to halfords they will have a chart to match your car to the right battery, might end up paying a few quid more but it's worth it for the convenience.

Lots of websites will tell you what you need by entering your reg / car details. Use the info to shop around, or, as mentioned above, pay the convenience premium at Halfords

When I was looking Euro Car Parts prices weren't actually half bad on Batteries, order online and use a discount code then just go collect.

Costco also do Bosch ones for a pretty decent price too

Had one in a 09 reg fiesta before, when the original battery stopped holding a charge. No problems whatsoever.

Always been a big fan of the Exide Batteries from Euro Car Parts.

As mentioned, pop your reg in and it'll list the correct models

Interesting turn of events- I'm now broken down in a halfords car park! Turns out it wasn't the battery after all. New battery and when I turn the key the engine barely turns twice. Now no engine turning at all luckily the halfords has a garage so there's a silver lining...

very odd, presumably the battery has 13v ish.
starter motor bushes could be bad, but normaly it wont turn at all if they are. give the start a hit with a hammer to un seize it get it goign some times.

only things that effect starting at
Battery > Startmotor > flywheel or way over filled engine oil
