Turning on hardware 3D in Jedi Knight: MOTS for the first time, Quake 3, X-Isle (basically Far Cry tech demo).

Metro 2033 and Crysis 3 probably. They were and remain games that are great stress tests for GPUs. Battlefield 4 I use for CPU stability testing.

Medieval 2: total war.

Loved that game but it did not like my Radeon X800 one little bit. Life got a bit easier when I introduced it to a 8800GTS 512mb.

I've always found TW games rig killers. Even Rome 2 can barely hit 30fps on a 980Ti.

Isn't that because they are more cpu bound games? :)

Maybe but I can't remember now if I changed my CPU when I changed the card. I was full of ale for a lot of them years I'm afraid. There was definitely a huge difference though.

I never even bothered with crisis as I knew it wouldn't run acceptably on any machine I owned.

I'm struggling to remember exactly what game it was, but I distinctly remember having a game on my 386 SX 25 which would only run a pared down version because I didn't have the maths co-processor which those stuck-up DX boys had.

Klingon Honour guard on a 166mx, had to overclock it to 200mhz to get it playable, except it brought on random crashes.

The most modern game that depressed me for even trying to play it was GTA3 but that was bad on anything when it first came out on PC!

Quake 2

I was only using software mode at the time, didn't have a dedicated graphics card. Talking like 2 to 5 fps at 300 x 240 :p
