So after a long life our Dyson upright has finally packed in. Lately all we've seemed to do is pay for it to be repaired.

No more, i'm just going to buy a new hoover!

Soooo GD, got a budget of £200, ideally would prefer to go under it! Shall i just buy the basic and cheapest Dyson or buy another make?

Best thread of the week or what?

Don't get it - You say you are going to buy a new Hoover but then ask about buying another Dyson? Which is it?

I hate dysons, we burned through several before seeing the light. They have lots of stupid little catches and clips that break easily, generally rendering the thing useless. Very overpriced, you are paying for the name only.

My Miele one did work ok but then developed a motor fault, which in fairness John Lewis repaired. However, you can't use the motor speed setting any more, but it still does the job. I was hoping it would be more reliable as it was quite expensive but hey.

Panasonic vacuum cleaners may be worth a look, as their products are usually well made.
