Blinking Power Light, HP Laptop Doesn't Switch on

Hi guys, I've been having some problems with my HP G62 laptop. I've just replaced the dc power jack this evening as it was faulty.

I was using it without any issues, battery was charging up nicely, then it cut the power. Booted it up again, used it for about an hour then it dies again.

Pressing the power button makes the led by the power jack flash three times. Removing the battery and pressing the power switch makes the switch itself blink quickly and consistently. I can also hear a steady clicking every half second or so from around the power jack.

I've also tried with the battery and power lead removed holding down the power switch for 30 seconds which apparently resets it. In addition I've powered it up with he chose battery removed and it does actually work which is odd.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an issue with the power jack you have replaced to me, those I am confused by what you mean where you say "he chose battery removed" ?

Sorry, wrote the post on my phone. I meant simply, I powered it up with the battery removed.
