How could they sell the 470 for "much more" than £150? At that point, you'd be as well buy a reference 4gb 480?
Would be shooting themselves in the foot to release these cards at high price point.

Well to be honest, I think a lot of us have been waiting for AMD to do exactly that. unfortunately it is something that AMD just seem to have a knack for, when things seem to be going well for them.

Of course this is not to say that NVidia don't do the same, the entire 970 debacle springs to mind, but somehow NVidia seem to still come up smelling of roses.

So 470 about 15-20% slower than the 480.

Hmm isn't that a bit more than the less than 10% shader difference would suggest, probably slower memory as well like the 480 4GB.

These are the specs:

926 Mhz base clock
1206 Mhz boost clock
6.6 Gbps memory

So yes, the memory is even slower than the 4GB 480 which was 7 Gbps. It's looking worse than the 380 was to the 380X, those had identical specs except the number of shaders. I'm not sure what to make of that really low base clock either. Anandtech think that it's probably not going to be hitting its boost clock as often due to power limits.

Yeah it's looking like a really pointless card. Close in price to the 480, but at least 20% slower. Might even be worse price/perf than a 380.

A shame, when they've had great cards like the 7850 in the past, but AMD just don't seem to be able to recreate past (good) form.

OK, using those Reddit perf results, the 470 would be 1.12 * 380 perf. New 380s on OcUK right now are £150 (or £80 2nd hand).

That means for the 470 to be *worse* price/perf than a 380, it only has be £168 or more.

Given Gibbo's "much more" than £150 comment, then the 470 is *quite likely* to be *worse* price/perf than a 380.

We can only hope I'm totally wrong, but this is the situation we find ourselves in going by the leaks and Gibbos comments.

AMD aint a charity.

No, but stagnating the mid-range won't help them sell products, either. Eventually, people on ultra-low end cards will all have upgraded to 380 or 290 perf, then what will AMD do, when they can't release another card with the same perf but lower power?

470 won't be more than 10% slower than the 480, £160 and it will fly.

Wanna bet? :p

18% slower and £170+.

Btw, where are you pulling your numbers from? No problem if it's just speculation, we're all doing that. But I don't think I've missed any leaks as I've been scanning Google religiously for info :p
