Not strengthening the side when we were on top. Leaving the team in a bit of a state when he left. Appointing Moyes as his successor. There have been plenty of bad ones in hindsight but those are the biggest ones.

Fergie made up for a lot of shortcomings in the squad but once he left you really saw how important he was for our success.

Wanted to reply but its not transfer related :(

Higuain and possibly Lukaku are slightly inflated because they have/ may go to direct competitors / in the same league which is always going to make them more expensive.

WHats Lukaku actually worth, £30m? on what he can actually do right now, 10m? on his potential and a further 10m-15m? on being a direct competitor (even if Everton dont really directly compete with Chelsea, ie not the same annual targets for success etc) and the rest on the general insane prices ,and the fact that the window is running out for such a big deal, and there arent that many really decent strikers around currently

He scored 17 in 20 games for West Brom, 17 for Everton the next year, 10 in a not great year for Everton where their attack didn't click and 18 last year, that is league goals alone. Even the year he scored 10 in the league he scored 22 in all competitions for Everton. Having just turned 23 he's scored 20 or more goals in each of 4 years in England.

You don't half say some really weird stuff Frank, but saying Lukaku is worth 10mil now, when he's scoring at the rate he is... that is quite literally insane. There are strikers who score half as much who have gone for more than 10million. At a better club that creates a lot more chances he'd have scored significantly more already and will do in the future. He's worth 40mil at least on current form and the likelyhood that he will both improve both at a better club and with the fairly usual significant increase in form coming in the 5-6th season would add significantly more than that.

I said he is worth £30m on what "he can do right now" and £10m on his potential (which imo includes what he is capable of in a better team)

I only lessened his potential because there are still a lot of mistakes he is constantly making , fluffing the easier chances.

(its even pretty clear in the quote you posted, so how the **** you didnt read it again is beyond me)

It read just like a dribbling ramble so I glossed over it and moved on.

Only time will tell if he's overpriced, but to say that now is silly, especially as the entirety of the transfer window has gone mental.

At the end of the day if you can afford the fee, then you can justify it.

United have the money, they're not taking on debt to fund the deal, they've gained these funds from organic commercial growth.

As to whether Pogba will be worth £100m - who actually cares? How do you decide what a player is "worth" - they had a need in their squad, they purchased a player to fill that gap, a player with talent that will make the league more interesting - the money spent on him really doesn't matter.

As an Arsenal fan its galling to see these sums splashed around, because we will never to be able to compete with money like that, but I only dislike it because I'm jealous.

They've clearly overpaid. But had to in order to price Real out of a deal... so they've got that 'value' for the overpayment. I don't think you'll find any rational person who doesn't think they've overpaid.

People said the same thing about Martial when he first joined. Then after a few months everyone said he was a bargain. I guess only time will tell.

Pogba has now landed at Manchester Airport and is en route to his medical. Not sure if it'll be formally announced today.

It'd be less ridiculous if it was more like £60m, given the market right now. You could probably argue anywhere between £40m and £80m. I realise that's a huge window, but the point is that although his 'reasonable market value' would still be insane, £100/£120m is overpaying.

Well ~£50m gets you:

Sterling
Luiz
De Bruyne
Hulk

Pogba is already considered one of the best midfielders in the world and is very young and has bags of potential. Given the market right now and the amounts we could spend, the amount we are paying is about right.

I think we will see some big transfers from the likes of Chelsea and City before the end of the summer that will make you realise that prices are just that high now.

I thought the fee was £89 million?
