Permanent marker pen for metal?

I've got quite an old blue ink permanent marker pen with a thick felt tip and a couple of TDK CD pens. I'm trying to mark some height and length settings on drum hardware but the ink just rubs off quite easily. I've got some older hardware that I marked years ago where the ink has stayed put and now it's starting to rub off. Do old marker pens lose their permanency? Is there an (inexpensive) permanent marker pen designed for metal you can recommend?

Here's a new stand I'm trying to mark, I'm not sure what metal it is, probably steel with chrome plating. It's fairly heavy in weight.

I was going to suggest scribing them but that may not be an option. Were the previous marks done using engineers blue?

By this old blue ink permanent marker pen.

Stick a bit of sellotape over the top.

Well I used sellotape and it came off. However, yes, if I mark with my blue pen and then wrap sellotape around the metal tubes a couple of times, that should actually hold for a long time. Good one!
