Terrible internet, worth switching?

We're currently with Sky as Virgin haven't cabled our area but are now regularly hitting speeds of about 20kb/second so the internet is pretty much unusable.

Is it actually worth moving to BT or similar bearing in mind it's the same line?

Is the issue 24/7?

It's not 24/7 but lasts for 2-3 hours at random times. It has happened at peak times but I've experienced it whilst off work during weekday mornings and afternoons.

I've not phoned sky yet as I'm not sure what they can do from their script other than tell me to reboot the router or check their own network status web page and say everything is fine.

Create a BQM.

You'll have to access the router's WebUI & enable Respond to Ping on Internet WAN Port.
