is 5 nights too long ?
me and the wife like a dabble on the casinos but not sure on the duration.

also 5 nights works out the same price as 3.

I just returned back from Vegas, I really didn't actually enjoy Vegas itself. 3 days would be too long for me. it is very superficial, very plastic and very touristy, not my scene at all.

Too long - I went for 3 days and that was more than long enough. Unless you have unlimited cash to gamble for 5 days straight there's not enough to do in my opinion.

Depends what you want to do really, you can easily fill time by trying restaurants, shows, gun range, trip to the grand canyon, pool parties, club nights etc. Depends what you're into really.

My GF and I spent a week there a few years ago and barely spent a thing on gambling, most of the time was spent just doing fun stuff.

Vegas is a tricky one, I have been with friends and also just with Mrs on couple occasions for 3nights 5 nights and 7 nights, I love the place, but, it's hugely overrated, it's tricky because it's along way to go for 3 nights, but there's only so much you can see and do, sure you can take in the shows, gamble, go on tours and drink the day away, but 7 nights I got bored even 5 nights you have seen everything. When people ask me about Vegas, I say go for 5 nights but make sure you pad your time out with shows and tours everyday, otherwise your going to wish you spent the money on a fortnight in Spain or a week in Thailand

Agree. Plenty to do really if you want to.
You might find after a long day doing a tour that the next one you just want to chill out by a pool in the sun. Followed by clothes shopping in the outlet centres.
I personally would go for the 5 days if it's the same price. Don't have to go mad with the spending on the extra two days.

I wouldn't go all the way to California just for 5 nights in Vegas, that's for sure!

On the flipside, I'm sure if you do as suggested above and have plenty of things prebooked you'll be absolutely fine. Who ever complained about a holiday being too long? You can always chill by the pool for a day or so. If it's the same price then you've practically answered your own question.

Just make sure you blow your budget at the SW Steakhouse

Loved Vegas

Spent 4 days there in feb last year and it was amazing i do admit it helped me and the misses won 1400 dollers between us within a hour of arriving at the strip at the Wynn on fruit machines so we really didn't have a care in the world at the time.

We went to Omnia to watch Calvin Harris and the drinks for a basic vodka and lemonade was $29 but due to the above i didn't mind at the time.

Im worried if i go back its gonna ruin it for me since the amazing time i had the first time.

And i still have the Fat Tuesdays yard i bought to walk the strip lol

There's a fair amount to do with various tours, parties, outlets etc. Just be prepared for how fake and tacky it all is and you'll be fine :)

OK here's the thing ! The strip is not my cup of tea !!! But Vegas/Nevada has really really beautiful places to visit all within short driving distances.

Mount Henderson
Red Rock Canyon
Arizona (off the beaten track and not just the Hoover Dam)
Sumerlin

Views you could just never experience in the UK... Forget the strip.. The strip is for losers (literally) ok some may win, but in the end they always lose ! Get out and experience some of the amazing desert and red rock trails that are just up the road FFS !

I spent 4 days in Vegas

Day 1 - Chill get accustomed
Day 2 - Trip to grand canyon - fly over hoover dam - Stag doo
Day 3 - Best man for brothers wedding - went for a lovely meal and went to a nice show
Day 4 - Chill and enjoy ourselves

Best 4 day holiday i've ever had, and honestly.. its not as tacky as some people may have you believe.. the slot machines are mind-blowing with glasses free stereoscopic 3d effects.. Most machines pay out at 110%+ to lure you in towards high stakes tables.. I came home with more money than i took, thanks to a few multiple hundred dollar wins on slots.. would have loved to stay longer than we did.

And again i'll state this.. It is not fake nor tacky, the customer service is the best i have EVER had, the buildings are just awe inspiring and the quality of the infrastructure is mind boggling.. My hotel the Monte carlo had a monorail straight through the strip up to the Bellagio where my brother got married. The place is just jaw dropping

if you seriously can't find things to fill 5 days in and around Vegas....i can only shake my head. tons and tons of shows, features, attractions, tours, not to mention just taking in the buildings themselves.

We were there for a week, neither of us drink or gamble...

There was a lot of stuff to do.

Some of the stuff we did:

Pinball Hall Of Fame - spent far, FAR too long in here. :D
Freemont St - wonderfully awful.
Atomic Test Museum
Plane out to Grand Canyon at 6am, watch the sun rise over the country, be pretty much alone on the edge of the canyon.
Take in a show. I'd recommend Penn & Teller.
The Neon Museum. Take the earliest night tour you can and the place starts to light up in the dark.
Mob Museum
Rhyolite Ghost Town
As well as just wandering around up and down the strip and visiting the utter tackyness of most of the casinos.

Oh yeah... forgot the various roller coasters too.

Must be pretty poor value for money with the exchange rate being 1.2 at the moment? Wouldn't you rather go somewhere else?

It depends on what kind of person you are. If you like eating out, getting drunk, (queuing for) clubs, gambling, seeing shows and talking to Trump supporters then 5 is worth it.

It's always seemed like more of a lads holiday than something for couples to me.

Vegas certainly polarises peoples opinions on here I've always found! Either people love it or hate it.

I've been there 4 times (for 7 days, 7 days again, 5 days and last year 4 days) the first couple of times I thought it was amazing by the 4th trip I kind of felt 'Vegas'd out' and had done most of the big things. Will probably go back in a few years when there's a bit more new stuff built.

I'm not a big gambler (play the fruities and the $5 craps!) and don't drink or do clubbing really but there's still loads to do for a first timer.

Visiting all the hotels and their attractions (non gambling) on the Strip - that's about 4-5 days on its own!
Going to a show (like Flibster said go to Penn and Teller!)
Grand Canyon trip
Hoover Dam trip

That covered my first week there I think!

Subsequent times I did
Visiting one of the many gun shops!
Red Rock Canyon
Go on the High Roller Ferris wheel

The buffets used to be cracking value for money back in the day but think they're not quite as good now (probably because it was $1.80 to the pound back in 2006 rather than $1.20!)
