I've been playing this for a while now and it really is an amazing piece of work, if you are or have been a stalker fan it's a must play.

The addons are great too, they really let you craft your own perfect stalker experience.

Currently I'm using:

STCoP weapon pack - added hi res weapons
Autumnal Winds - amazing hi Res texture pack that really gives the desolate feel to the game.
S.T.W.C - stalker total weather conversion, hi res sky's basically.
Doctor X dynamic factions - factions can change allegence.

Plus a whole load of smaller addons such as fast travel, loot money from corpses and small HUD mods.

Now back to the zone :D

Can you provide links for those mods please? Thanks. :)

Here you go, this is a link to all the available addons:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl/addons

The addons can conflict if your not careful, the best install order to help avoid this is:

Main game - Call of Chernobyl 1.4
Patch - 1.4.22
Weapon pack - one of the three available, they cannot be used together.
Texture packs - the main ones are Autumnal Winds, Absolute nature, Absolute structures and S.T.W.C.
Then any other addons.

Enjoy :)

Over tried to get in to stalker several times but I think being used to today's hand holding puts players at a disadvantage in classics like this! Though I'm not against challenge! Maybe I should look into the series again as I love the setting etc

Are the add-ons absolutely necessary? Presumably the base game incorporates many of them in the first place?

Can anybody elaborate on the features etc? I understand it now includes a story mode.
I checked the wiki, but it's all in Russian, which is not a good start!

The link Nasha posted above will give you all the info you need

The add ons are not absolutely necessary by any means, the game would be great as is. What the devs have done is essentially give us the levels from all 3 stalker games, joined them up and made them alive with Stalker goodness  The story mode is just a light story that leads you through the main areas of the game, I use this mode.

What they have deliberately not done is make sweeping changes to the game like other large scale Stalker projects (OL, OGSE, Lost Alpha etc) this allows you choose what you'd like to add to the game through the addons/mods much like the original games.

This very much feels like the next stalker game, it's even set after Call of Pripyat.

What is in the base game exactly? Vanilla weapons and sounds, or some sort of overhaul? What about the upgrades system, is it like Call of Pripyat?
I appreciate there are add-ons, but I want to know what's included by default.

It's Call of Pripyat but with 32 maps instead of 3

So far, I'm enjoying this a lot, though I'm mainly just experimenting with mods at present. I'm currently using: arsenal overhaul 3.1, absolute nature redux, structures redux, stalker weather total conversion & autumnal winds, as well as a few smaller mods like dynamic faction relations, fast travel, corpses drop loot & outfit addon.

I don't know about any of you playing this, but I was kind of hoping that Sidorovich could buy weapons which weren't required to be in very good condition only (I haven't tried selling much to anyone else).

Edit: I think I may have found a mod which sorts out the selling of low conditioned weapons.

Sorry for being a thicko....

Can you play it like the original game? Has the quests and everything?

Hi,

Here's a bit of info.

Mods are not required, I do not bother with any mods, However I made my own mod that increases my walking weight a bit and lets me sell guns that are in a worse condition than normal.

COC does not include the Call of Pripyat storyline, It is a freeplay mod but there are missions available from characters,
As an example in the Cordon you'll find that Sidorovich have assassination missions and clearing bandit base missions which are repeatable, Wolf has mutant hunting missions, again repeatable, Nimble will want you to get him weapons while also selling you the unique weapons and armours he sells in COP, Random Stalkers also have mission like fetching supplies, rescuing kidnapped Stalkers from there enemies and escorting them somewhere.
On maps with faction bases you will find characters you know from the 3 games with more missions, such as in the Bar the Duty trader from SOC has missions as does the Freedom trader in the Warehouses, Of course all are dependant on you being friendly with that faction, When you start a game you can choose what faction you join but when you choose you can see which factions you are friendly with and which are enemies. Technicians also have tool finding jobs as in COP and the upgrade system is the same as in COP.

If when you start the game you choose the story mode it has some extra missions which include shutting down the devices in the labs at Yantar and on the Radar map to gain access to Pripyat and the CNPP as in SOC, You can also find the SOC character Doc and get a series of missions that send you deep into the zone to collect documents and lab notes etc which give info on Zone lore.

There's plenty to do as you travel the zone visiting new maps as well as those in the 3 games. The mod has roughly 32 maps and a vastly improved AI system that brings them to life in a way the original games couldn't.
