What temperature is your house?

Shocked how many people have the heating on overnight, glad I am not paying your bills

I have to, it gets down to minus 14C here in winter

I do have geothermal underfloor heating though so I only pay for the electricity for the pumps.

I've never understood people with the heating on at night ours is always off from just before 10pm until someone gets up and turns it back on it's no wander the world faces an energy crisis and we all moan about our bills!

But what's the temperature like in the morning on a cold day? Our house can lose a good 5 degrees overnight on nights like the last few - not nice to get up to low teens degrees when it takes several hours to get warm again.

No idea it's cold so I nip downstairs put the heating on make a cuppa and get on with the day!

21 with heating on but it doesn't ever drop below 17-18 at the moment with the heating off during the day.

When you have something like Nest which controls the heating and so it turns on only when the temp falls below a certain point then it's rather efficient actually.

More the sleeping part, I guess I like sleeping under duvets so don't need the room to be 18c to enjoy that, I am more happy cool than hot.

22c (more or less), with it off from about 10pm to 6am, with it on that much mainly due to someone being in all day

According to the smart meter it tends to be costing about £3-4 a day at the moment, although most of that is the initial warm up in the morning (it can use about £2 by about 11am, then might only use another £1-2 for the next ten hours)

It gets down to -30 or below here... If it's not on...

That said it doesn't normally go on until morning because it takes a while for the temperature to drop to 15.

The weather's been pretty good recently so it's barely been running. According to Nest it didnt run at all yesterday and only 30mins on Saturday.

It's 90mins in the morning and 90mins in the evening.

I have a plasma TV, that alone is a giant radiator. Front room currently is at 16c and I am in a T-shirt and shorts.

* Elec - 5,750 KWh

Crikey, my gas was only 6764 kwh
Elec 4286 kwh

However my missus is stubborn about it and is fighting me on my quest to remove it and replace with a more economical jobbie!

Big house? 6200 and 1700 here in 2 bed mid terrace. Tado set to ~16c when out, 20-21c in the evenings and goes off about 22:00 so gradually drops back down.

21 when were in. Off when walk out the door and when going bed.

surely not 21 at night?

when i'm in the house I will set it to 18-20 depending on how cold it is outside and how windy it is. house has a few vents where cold wind gets in but it keeps the air circulated and gets rid of moisture so worth having them but it does mean it's worth having it a little warmer when it's colder and windier outside.

if it's particularly cold or windy (below zero) then I'll stick it to 21.

i know this shouldn't really matter but I find it does.

at 11pm it gets switched to 12 but i don't have aircon so it actually just turns off at 11pm and the heat will just slowly drop overnight.

i have it set to pre-heat for a maximum of 5 hours and to be 16 for 7am. we both find this pretty warm tbh as the stat is in the coldest part of the house. it then switches to 9 at 8.30am. with the pre-heating it means the heating could turn back on at the earliest 2am so the house warms up to 16 for bang on 7am.

being in bed in a duvet means no need to have heating on high. thats what duvets are for to keep you warm overnight.

it switches to 9 from 8.30 until 4pm where it gets set to 18-20 so its warm by the time i get home.

i have a nest stat so it does majority of this automatically i adjust it here and there when need be.

i take it you have pets or plants in your home? otherwise why set to 16 when away?

Off when we're out

Not sure if that's the best way of doing things

that looks very efficient tbh i don't see how you could improve on that.
