For what it's worth I would not want to see Scotland leave the UK. We have far more in common with Scotland than we do with the rest of Europe.

I also don't think leaving the EU will be quite as doom and gloom as people claim it would be. Plenty of countries exist outside of the EU and they are fine, we can do well in the EU or not.

I've not given this much thought but for the indy supporters how will Scotland potentially leaving the Union impact on people and businesses given the UK will leave the EU with a policy of not allowing free movement of residence and work for anyone outside the UK.

Will Scots not already resident in Northern Ireland, Wales and England have to apply for a Visa to travel, live and work in Wales, England and Northern Ireland the same as a resident of France or Greece? Would Scottish goods and services have to be subject to an as yet to be thrashed out trade agreement, not only with the rUK but the EU? What happens to Scottish industry in the mean time if there's no trade agreements in place - the EU have already said it could take 10 years to agree new trade agreements with the UK. There's no guarantee Scotland would even be fast tracked back into the EU given the well publicised concerns from member states such as Spain struggling with their own nationalist parties.

What would the impact be if there is a "hard" border between the countries as there could well be given the rejection of open borders and freedom of movement forms a main tenant of the Brexit vote? It seems unlikely the rUK voters would be sympathetic to a "special" arrangement such as likely will be in place for Northern Ireland and Eire under the circumstances given the precedent of the previous vote to remain as part of the UK, the Brexit vote then followed by the perceived "slap in the face" from the nationalists dragging the country through yet another divisive referendum and then rejection of the Union (if that was the result).

Of course raising this opens up the opportunity for the jeers of "Project Fear" and "Too wee, too poor and too stupid" but I can't help but think it's likely to be more of a potential option this time than it was last given the result and focus of Brexit.

Scotland won't be allowed in the EU and will leave the UK so it will be totally screwed which is a shame because I don't want to see the UK split up and that will make a right mess of everything.

Shamelessly nicked this from a mate, but its a fair point from any perspective

Absolutely and it works exactly the same from the Scottish perspective only the nationalists are too blind to see it. This discussion is a waste of time. It's quite clear what your position is so there is no debate, it's just people entrenched in their positions arguing the toss.

In a similar way to the perverse enjoyment I got at the Americans being lumbered with the very thing some of them voted for, part of me does want the same for Sturgeon supporters. She'll just keep going until she gets what some of the country wants. She's not even pretending otherwise these days. It's a tiresome ransom with little apparent thought put into the likely outcome of no EU membership, no part in the Union, basically insular, barren and friendless.

I feel sorry for my family and friends who object to a second chance at what was supposed to be once in a generation but I think it's heavily likely that the SNP will get their way sooner or later, and finally divide the country in two AND have to deal with the outcome.

I also love the pretence at 'civilised discussion' in the thread title and then a tirade in the OP's 2nd paragraph. Got a genuine LOL from me.

Anyone that voted for brexit should not be at all surprised that there will be another Scottish referendum. The main thrust of the unionists was an independant Scotland being out of the EU, now they are being dragged out of the EU against their wishes anyway.
If they lose again, the Conservatives will do a real number on them.

Given the OPs record so far of lighting blue touch paper and then contributing nothing other than pictures of things others have said I suspect we'll quickly be back were we were last time with the same poster just pasting RSS Wings over Scotland screen snips and cartoons.

Will Scotland just keep on having votes until they get the vote the want? This is all becoming a bit of a bore - let them dig their own grave.

Nope, but when something major happens e.g. the majority of English coming out of their closets and publicly disclosing their facism, then that warrants another referendum.

Would you like a boulder to balance that chip on your shoulder dear?

Also how hilariously moronic is that comment? You're saying because some people wanted to leave a union they're fascists. WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU THINK SCOTLAND LEAVING THE UK WOULD BE?

If my memory is correct, the SNP has been in government since 1997. For the voters of Scotland I would just ask one question. Do you believe the SNP has made your life better in that time and will continue to do so ? If so, support them and vote yes, if not vote no.

From south of the border, its none of my business, but for the love of god make a decision and stick to it. Constant uncertainty will stuff your futures up far more than anything else.

Sorry what? You say that like all Scots want independence when clearly not all Scots want independence, I certainly don't and will be voting to remain part of the UK. This is an SNP mandate for them and their supporters...surprisingly enough though I do know of some who wanted to leave the EU however and won't be voting Yes this time around. It's actually a bit of a disaster and a cluster**** from Sturgeon, the worst possible timing.

Correct, it was a moronic statement intended to perfectly balance the moronic question it quoted.

Also, what chip is it you refer to? Do you mean that one that keeps getting placed by comments all over these threads about how poor / stupid / needy the Scots are? :p

SNP, the biggest single issue party there is. Its an absolute joke and Sturgeon is promising things she cant deliver, just for a change.

You really have no clue, do you? They've done wonders for Scotland.

I'm sure that's all too liberal and socialist for most in the south though, it may appear like they've done nothing when it's the interests of the wealthy we're talking about.
